The Undisputed Era had a part in the main event of NXT San Antonio

We are now at Survivor Series weekend where a lot of action will go down in Houston, Texas the next four days. Before the big weekend started, the NXT roster went down the road to San Antonio to entertain the NXT Universe including a main event between Adam Cole and Drew McIntyre with the legendary "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels as the guest referee.

The San Antonio show is on the eve of NXT Takeover: WarGames; which features the return of Dusty Rhodes' creation for the first time in 17 years. A majority of the people in the WarGames match competed in San Antonio preparing for what could be the most brutal match most of these wrestlers have had in their career.

NXT San Antonio's card included a total of six matches, but the only match with a championship on the line was Cole v. McIntyre. Continue on to see how last night's NXT Live event unfolded!

Match #1: Aleister Black v. Velveteen Dream

The night began with a match that we will see tonight on NXT Takeover: WarGames. In a feud where opposites do not attract, the Velveteen Dream and Aleister Black have clashed lately as Dream is desperate to get the attention of Black.

Tonight was not the night of the Velveteen Dream as he fell prey to the devastating Black Mass kick. Not the momentum he's looking for their match in Houston tonight.

Result: Aleister Black def. Velveteen Dream

Triple H cuts a promo for the San Antonio crowd

After the opening match, The Creator of NXT Triple H came out with his usual intense entrance. He cut a promo to hype the crowd up for the upcoming night of action as well as NXT Takeover: WarGames.

To end the promo Triple H thanked the crowd for supporting NXT. As a member of the NXT Universe, I'd say, "no Triple H, thank you!"

Match #2: Peyton Royce v. Kairi Sane

The second bout of the night featured two of the four women who will compete for the vacant NXT Women's Championship at NXT Takeover: WarGames. The winner of the inaugural Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane, took on one-half of the Iconic Duo, Peyton Royce.

On my Lost In The Midcard podcast, both my co-host and I predicted Peyton Royce to win with Nikki Cross being the other possible victor, but it wasn't Peyton's night in San Antonio as Kairi Sane defeated her with the amazing Insane Elbow.

Result: Kairi Sane def. Peyton Royce

Match #3: Johnny Gargano v. Andrade "Cien" Almas

The ever-popular Johnny Gargano wrestled next as he took on the current number one contender for Drew McIntyre's NXT Championship, Andrade "Cien" Almas.

This is a tale of two wrestlers going in different directions. Thanks to Almas' business associate Zelina Vega, he wedged his way into a title match at NXT Takeover: WarGames; while Johnny Gargano has struggled to find his footing ever since his former DIY tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa turned on him.

The fortunes of both wrestlers would not change on this night as the #1 contender would come out victorious.

Result: Andrade "Cien" Almas def. Johnny Gargano

Match #4: Tyler Bate & Trent Seven v. Mark Andrews and WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne

Next up for the NXT Universe in San Antonio was a taste of the United Kingdom division as Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) took on the WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews.

It wasn't a good night for the champion as the Bruiserweight and Andrews fell to the Mountain. What's interesting about this United Kingdom Division match is the potential of a bonus Survivor Series match between the UK and Cruiserweights after the results from the WWE's trip to the United Kingdom last week.

Result: Tyler Bate & Trent Seven def. Mark Andrews and WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne

Match #5: The Authors of Pain v. SAnitY

The second-to-last match of the evening featured two teams that will compete in the first ever WarGames match since 2000 at NXT Takeover: WarGames tonight in Houston, Texas.

The Authors of Pain took on SAnitY ahead of their battle inside the cage. An interesting side note for WarGames, the manager of The Authors of Pain, Paul Ellering, competed in the very first WarGames match in 1987.

Going into Takeover tonight, it was Akam and Rezar that gained momentum as they defeated SAnitY in San Antonio.

Result: The Authors of Pain def. SAnitY

Main Event: Drew McIntyre v. Adam Cole for the NXT Championship w/ Shawn Michaels as the guest referee

The main event for NXT Live in San Antonio had a lot of importance with the special appearance of WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels as the referee. The NXT Championship was on the line as Drew McIntyre defended against Adam Cole.

As expected The Undisputed Era would get involved, and for his trouble, Kyle O'Reilly would taste some Sweet Chin Music:

Michaels was able to keep The Undisputed Era in check and it enabled McIntyre to retain his NXT Championship. There is little rest for McIntyre as he will defend his title against Andrade "Cien" Almas as NXT Takeover: WarGames tonight.

Result: Drew McIntyre def. Adam Cole to retain the NXT Championship
