5 Scottish stars that should be featured more in ICW in 2020

Who could feature more regularly in ICW next year?
Who could feature more regularly in ICW next year?

2019 certainly has been a successful year for Insane Championship Wrestling.

Plenty of packed-out big shows, high quality matches and a national TV documentary all played a role in making it one of the promotion's best years.

What made 2019 different than the others for ICW though was their integration of up-and-coming talent into the product.

Names such as Kez Evans, Leyton Buzzard and Kieran Kelly became regular across ICW shows, seamlessly complimenting the likes of Joe Coffey, Kay Lee Ray and Wolfgang. With the introduction of ICW GONZO in recent months - a new show designed to showcase lesser seen talent - 2020 will only see this trend continue.

With a plethora of training schools - GPWA, Source and PBW, to name a few - fans of Scottish wrestling are spoiled for choice.

So here are five Scottish based wrestlers we could see more of in ICW in 2020.

#5 Craig Anthony

We start with a man who many ICW fans have seen this year, even if they didn’t know it for a while.

Anthony made up one third of the trio known as Power Forward. Alongside Grant McIvor and Scott McManus, Power Forward were masked associates of Mark Coffey, constantly attempting to aid him in victory.

Now unmasked, the question now is where do the three men go from here? Whilst all talented, Anthony is arguably the pick of the bunch.

Athletically gifted, Anthony’s high flying offence has come on leaps and bounds in the last 18 months, placing him as one of the country’s most under rated talents.

In terms of how he could fit into ICW? Continuing to work with Power Forward as they look for revenge on Kenny Williams and Mark Coffey is one option.

A better fit would be to place him with a man he knows very well. Anthony and Kieran Kelly make up the team known as I-Gen across the rest of Scotland’s promotions, holding many tag team titles along the way.

Putting them together would be an easy way to familiarize Anthony to the ICW audience, as well as present a fresh direction for Kelly.

#4 KOE

Speaking of tag teams, Kai Williams-King and King Killa have already made an impression in ICW.

Their one appearance last year against current ICW Tag Team Champions The Purge saw them earn rave reviews for their performance.

Coming out of the Source Wrestling school, the brotherly duo KOE display capabilities that could easily see them adapt to being both faces and heels.

They have a natural charisma and swagger about their in-ring presence that is almost infectious regardless of what act they are trying to play.

The ICW tag team division is arguably the most stacked it’s been in years. In order to prevent repetition though, it’s important that they keep integrating new blood.

Outside of the promotion in Scotland, there isn’t many more highly rated than KOE.

#3 Emily Hayden

Anyone who can get a toaster over with a crowd deserves a shot at the big time.

Hayden’s work at Glasgow-based all women’s promotion Fierce Females in 2019 has earned rave reviews from those who’ve followed it regularly.

Not only is she full of charisma, but she has a fantastic ability to tell an effective story in the ring.

Hayden is highly regarded across Scotland as a two time W3L Women's Champion. Having been fired on screen for Fierce Females, there’s a chance there to try her hand at ICW.

Critics have commented on the promotion's lack of depth in its women’s division. Adding someone like Hayden would add a whole new direction.

#2 Daz Black

From a school that boasts the current NXT UK Women’s Champion as one of its alumni, the current shining light of the PBW Academy is Daz Black.

For someone so young, Black already shows an ability well beyond his years.

So highly rated is the youngster that he even has a victory over ICW World Champion Stevie Boy under his belt on a Pro Wrestling Scotland show - a match many are calling a match of the year contender from the country.

ICW have already integrated Black into their setup slightly as an entrant in the Fear and Loathing pre-show battle royal.

He’d be a seamless fit into ICW’s Zero-G Champion.

#1 Alexander Darwin MacAllan

Scotland’s most dominant champion of 2019, the man known as ADM has represented Source Wrestling proudly as their champion this year.

After recently losing that championship, fans are hoping for the chance to see more of the ‘Clyde River Killer’ in ICW.

He’s already made a number of appearances for the company this year alone, including in the Square Go match back in February.

One of the finest promo guys in UK wrestling, MacAllan’s vignette work is second to none, and rank as some of the most watched videos on ICW’s YouTube channel. One even includes him attempting to take out this writer.

A man as dedicated and as well polished all round as ADM is deserves a regular slot on the ICW roster.
