#4. The #1 spot rarely guarantees a victory

The running joke about the #1 spot in the Royal Rumble is how WWE always mentions "only two men have won from the first spot - and one of them is Shawn Michaels". Shawn Michaels was, of course, the first to do it in 1995, lasting over 38 minutes from the #1 spot.

The reason why WWE uses that line is that they can't mention the fact that Chris Benoit was the only other man to achieve the feat - entering at #1 in 2004, lasting a full hour and eliminating The Big Show at the end to secure his spot in the main event of WrestleMania.

The only other person who came close was Rey Mysterio, who entered at #2 in 2006 and went all the way until the end. Mysterio went on better because he broke the record and lasted 1 hour and 2 minutes - a whole minute longer than Benoit.

The point of all this is that the #1 spot rarely ever gets the win and this year isn't going to be an exception.
