5 streaks that could be broken at Elimination Chamber

If there is one thing WWE likes particularly about stats, it is to jinx them. The saying goes all good things must come to an end. Streaks in WWE are no different.

The most revered streak in professional wrestling history - The Undertaker's legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania - was no exception. At WrestleMania 30, WWE decided to pull the trigger and had Brock Lesnar defeat The Phenom at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Even though WWE is not advertising any streaks or records at the moment, it does not mean that there aren't any. Quite a few streaks are in the danger of being broken at this year's Elimination Chamber PPV. Some of them are for good, whereas others are for the worse. In this article, we will be taking a look at a few streaks that could be potentially broken at the event.

#5 AJ Styles' main event

AJ Styles - as his nickname suggests - is a phenomenal wrestler. The 41-year-old is one of WWE's best performers at the moment. In an era where the business is more exposed than ever, Styles is one of the few babyfaces who gets cheered whenever he makes an appearance.

However, that does not mean he gets to headline PPVs - especially dual branded ones. Styles has not headlined a dual-branded PPV since Extreme Rules 2016, where he challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Every one of his five opponents has headlined at least one dual-branded PPV during this period.

Kofi Kingston and Samoa Joe were in the main event of 2019 Royal Rumble and the Greatest Royal Rumble. Jeff Hardy made it to the main event of 2019 Royal Rumble. Randy Orton even had a singles main event match against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam 2016. Daniel Bryan had a singles main event match against Lesnar at Survivor Series 2018.

However, AJ Styles did not headline any of the dual-branded PPVs after Extreme Rules.

#4 Ronda Rousey's undefeated streak in singles matches

Can Ruby snap Rousey's streak?
Can Ruby snap Rousey's streak?

This one is probably the most obvious entry to this list. Since making her debut in WWE at Royal Rumble 2018, Ronda Rousey has lost just one match - a tag team bout against the team of Sasha Banks and Bayley with Natalya on Rousey's corner. However, Natalya took the fall in that match.

Rousey has not been yet pinned in WWE, nor has she tapped out. She has had matches against top female stars in WWE including Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and Alexa Bliss. The "baddest" woman on the planet did not lose any of these battles and had an undefeated streak in singles matches written to her name.

Even though Rousey would most probably defeat her challenger Ruby Riott at Elimination Chamber, no scenario can be written off. WWE has been throwing a lot of twists as of late, and Ruby defeating Rousey would be an unpredictable result.

#3 Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose's PPV losing streak

Of all the 12 women involved in the Women's Elimination Chamber match to crown the first ever Women's Tag Team Champions, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose have never won a PPV match in WWE. The former Absolution members each had a total of six appearances and accumulated six loses without any wins.

Although the duo never got a singles match at any PPV and was mostly in battle royals, a losing streak is still a losing streak. The talented youngsters would love to snap this streak once and for all and add a win to their PPV career by becoming the first ever Women's Tag Team Champions in WWE history.

However, the duo has a tough task at their hands as they are about to face five other teams inside the chamber, out of which three of them have at least one former Women's Champion.

#2 Jeff Hardy's world title match

Believe it or not, it has been 3463 days since Jeff Hardy last competed for a world title in WWE.

Jeff Hardy's last world title match came against his arch nemesis CM Punk on the 25th August 2009 edition of Smackdown - which he lost. Hardy then quit WWE and moved to other wrestling promotions for eight years before coming back to WWE at Wrestlemania 33.

However, since coming back, Hardy has not been up to much. Except for the initial days as the RAW Tag Team Champions and an intriguing feud against Randy Orton, Hardy has been in the background. But the times have changed, and now the Charismatic Enigma is in the title hunt. Hardy will take on five other superstars to become the new WWE Champion - the title he lost at Royal Rumble 2009 to Edge.

#1 The WWE championship match's main event

Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar closed out Survivor Series - but that bout was not for the WWE Championship

The WWE Championship is one of the most prestigious titles in the history of professional wrestling. It has been held by some of the all-time greats in WWE history including Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and John Cena.

However, the match for the big gold belt has not closed out a PPV since Fastlane 2018 where AJ Styles defended the WWE Championship against John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, and Dolph Ziggler.

The things get even worse when we talk dual-branded PPVs. A WWE Championship match has never headlined a dual-branded PPV after Battleground 2016, where Dean Ambrose defended his championship against his Shield brothers Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a triple threat match.

Even an Intercontinental Championship match has headlined a dual-branded PPV at Extreme Rules 2018. Yes, the WWE Champion Daniel Bryan was in the main event of Survivor Series 2018, but it was a non-title champion vs. champion match, and we are talking about a match for the WWE Championship.

This disrespect has to change. Elimination Chamber 2019 is the perfect opportunity for WWE to bring their most prestigious title back to the main event, where it truly belongs.
