5 superstars and how they can get over with the WWE Universe

They are not easy to please
They are not easy to impress

Honestly speaking, the WWE Universe is one tough crowd to please. Deliberately cheering the heels, booing the faces, taking over boring matches with 'CM Punk' chants (OK, that one is getting a little annoying), taking a complete U-turn on wrestlers (think Jason Jordan and Bayley) are just some things that they do.

However, more often than not, the WWE creative is to blame. They give us boring babyface characters and expect them to be cheered. They book the same old foreign heels berating America for its discrimination. These tactics don't work anymore.

There are actually quite a few talented wrestlers on the roster right now who just need to tweak a few things about themselves to get over with the fans. Let's have a look at 5 such superstars and what they can do to win over the WWE Universe.

#5 Jason Jordan

The time of clean cut babyfaces is long gone
The time of clean-cut babyfaces is long gone

Let us start with the curious case of Jason Jordan. As part of the American Alpha, he was seen as a talented young performer in the ring, destined for great things in the future. When WWE decided to split the team up, however, Jordan was portrayed as a clean-cut, Hogan-style babyface, including him in the ridiculous storyline of being Kurt Angle's son. Boy, how things went downhill.

Jordan can slowly turn into a guy who doesn't mind playing dirty and doing whatever it takes to win. One thing everyone can agree on is that Jordan is a great in-ring worker. More intensity in the ring and off it, being ruthless with his opponents and finally this leading to a clash with Kurt Angle can work well for Jordan. A final ruthless beatdown of Kurt Angle will culminate with him being a character similar to HHH of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras.

#4 Bayley

Bayley cannot pull off a heel character

Now, a heel turn is not the end-all solution to get any superstar over. There are a few wrestlers who just cannot pull off a hellish character and Bayley is definitely one of them. She was one of the most over wrestlers at NXT being part of the four horsewomen, and even when she first appeared on the main roster. So, what happened? Nothing. That is the issue.

Week after week of the same thing- Bayley coming out, having a match, being beaten more often than not and cut a promo about how she is so very happy and how she is living her childhood dream. While the innocence was endearing at first it got boring very quickly.

What the WWE must do is give her character more depth. There is definite room for improvement in the promo area as well. She needs more intensity in the ring as well as in her promos and some aggression once in a while in addition to her already good in-ring work. All of these will go a long way in getting Bayley cheered again.

#3 Jinder Mahal

When Jinder showed up on SmackDown Live after the superstar shake-up looking ridiculously ripped, knowing Vince, we should've anticipated a push to the moon. That is exactly what we got.

Mahal went on to win the WWE Championship at Backlash, a decision that utterly shocked the WWE Universe. In the beginning, this seemed like a good thing. Randy Orton was failing to keep things interesting as the Champion and a shocking win shook things up pretty well.

But what did WWE give us? Promo after promo of Mahal berating Americans for their discrimination of coloured people and speaking in Punjabi to 'his' people back in India even though he's actually Canadian, only his parents are of Indian descent. This must've made the fans miss his 'Inner Peace' gimmick.

Mahal can speak on the mic. He doesn't fumble with words and can be intense in his promos. His in-ring work is not yet up to par. A monster heel gimmick starting in the mid-card would suit him well. Some new powerhouse moves, some hardcore beatdowns (maybe start by beating up the Singh Brothers? They bump amazingly well!) and short, to-the-point promos. Incorporating these things might just get him some fan support that he desperately needs to continue in this business.

#2 The entire Women's division

The women are ready to take us by storm this Sunday at the Royal Rumble
The women are ready to take us by storm this Sunday at the Royal Rumble

The reason to include an entire division on this list is very simple. Other than some top stars like Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Alexa Bliss, the fans really do not care about what the rest of the women are up to. Yes, women's wrestling is probably at the highest point it has ever been, with many firsts this past year- Money in the Bank Ladder match, Hell in a Cell, first time main-eventing a PPV and then going on to main event the Royal Rumble with the first ever women's Rumble match. Most importantly, there is a whole roster filled with extremely talented women waiting for their moment of glory.

But none of this will be enough if the creative team does not even try to establish proper storylines in the division and gives us meaningless tag matches week after week. An example is the Raw 25 show where Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose teamed up with Nia Jax when Jax had attacked Paige just a couple of weeks ago. This just shows that the creative team really couldn't care less about establishing proper rivalries, storylines or even gimmicks for that matter.

There is a rumour going around that a tag team title for women could be introduced soon. Hopefully, at least that will lead to some interesting feuds amongst these talented women.

#1 Roman Reigns

Time to get rid of the vest

Who else can be #1 when we are talking about stars who need to win over the WWE Universe?

The only instances when Reigns has been unanimously cheered in the recent past, were when he pulled out all the stops and just beat up his opponents mercilessly and brutally.

So why not just do that? Keep promos sweet and short, and to the point. That's where Roman seems to shine. One of his best promos till date was just five words long. Just have him show up, beat his opponents to a pulp and go home. No pandering to the audience and definitely no long promos. Just keep him a silent badass and the fans will surely warm up to him eventually.

While we are at it, a change in attire would be definitely welcomed. Time to get rid of the vest and take some bumps the hard way, Roman.
