5 Superstars who could benefit from a heel turn

Who should follow in Lashley's footsteps and turn heel in the coming months?
Who should follow in Lashley's footsteps and turn heel in the coming months?

The WWE has gone heel turn crazy over the last 72 hours. Since Saturday's Super Show-Down event, we have seen The Undertaker, Kane, The Bella Twins, and Bobby Lashley all turn heel, with at least four of those five coming as something of a surprise to the WWE audience.

While the heel turns of The Brothers of Destruction and The Bella Twins have happened to purely set up one-off matches, Bobby Lashley's heel turn looks to be a little bit more permanent, and fans will be hoping that the change of character can finally breathe some life into Lashley's run with the company.

As we've seen several times this year already, a heel turn can be an effective way of helping a superstar build some momentum, and provide them with an opportunity to showcase a different side of their characters and even their in-ring work.

With that in mind, let's take a look at five other superstars who could benefit from a heel turn in the near future.

#5 R-Truth

R-Truth has been more relevant in the last few weeks that he has been for the last five years thanks to his unlikely partnership with Carmella and a lot more on-screen exposure than usual.

That being said, Truth can only stay relevant for so long while he continues to operate under his comedy gimmick. While he may be one of the oldest members of the roster, Truth is still a solid performer both in the ring and on the mic, and it wouldn't do the WWE any damage to keep him relevant for a little while longer.

One way to do that would be to resurrect his partnership with The Miz. Since leaving Raw, The Miz has not had anybody to do his dirty work for him, and given the nature of his defeat to Bryan at Super Show-Down, he may need to call on an old friend for help if he is going to regain some momentum in their feud.

Truth is a performer who is more than willing to commit to a cause, and he will have no problem being collateral damage as the feud between Bryan and The Miz escalates. He has demonstrated in recent weeks that he still has what it takes to remain relevant, so why not extend his run and reunite an old tag-team?

The Awesome Truth were an excellent addition to the WWE during their original run, and there's no doubt that they couldn't recapture that magic second time around.

#4 Asuka

Asuka's stock has plummeted rapidly since the start of 2018

The sight of Asuka dancing with Naomi at the start of her match at Super Show-Down may well be the saddest image we will see in the WWE this year.

Not even 12 months after her main-roster debut, WWE creative has managed to strip Asuka of all her credibility, and she is in desperate need of some sort of change if she is ever going to be taken seriously again.

Her little partnership with Naomi presents her with the perfect opportunity for a heel turn, and could really help the former NXT Women's Champion regain some momentum. Like Becky Lynch, Asuka could display a much more vicious in-ring style and instead of allowing her opponents to tap out, she could force them to pass out in the same way Samoa Joe does.

#3 Finn Balor

Finn Balor is one of the most popular superstars on the WWE roster. Unfortunately, he is also one of its most underutilised.

Since wrapping up his feud with Baron Corbin from the Summer, Balor has been used as nothing more than a promotional tool for Mixed Match Challenge along with Bayley.

While Balor and Bayley are an undeniably likeable and infectious pairing, their mini-feud with Alicia Fox and Jinder Mahal isn't doing anybody any favours.

Balor has been in need of some change for a while now, and whether that's a switch to SmackDown or a heel turn, it needs to happen soon. Balor's stock as a potential main-eventer is plummeting, and a big change to his character could instantly elevate him back up the card.

Balor excelled in NJPW as a heel, and his no-nonsense heel persona could be exactly what the WWE needs right now.

#2 Bobby Roode

Bobby Roode's run on the main roster has been far from glorious. Since making his debut just over a year ago, Roode has had a brief run with the United States title and done absolutely nothing else of note since.

He currently finds himself in a tag-team with Chad Gable locked into a meaningless feud with The Ascension.

To make matters worse for Roode, he was defeated on last week's Raw in singles competition by Konnor, which is not what should be happening to a former NXT champion, unless, of course, their name is Bo Dallas.

Roode is one of the company's most natural heels and he excelled under the role in NXT. Hopefully, his partnership with Chad Gable is leading to a heel turn, with Roode becoming increasingly frustrated with Gable hogging the spotlight.

The sky is the limit for Roode as a heel, and the sooner the WWE realises that, the better.

#1 Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks was one of the key figures in the women's revolution, and the fact that she is not being featured on WWE television just weeks before Evolution tells you everything you need to know about where her career is at right now.

Banks briefly teased a heel run earlier this year and provided us with some of her finest work since her feud with Charlotte Flair.

While the WWE managed to make a complete pig's ear of her potential feud with Bayley, Bobby Lashley's heel turn could actually provide the WWE with a chance to rectify that.

Lashley and Banks are currently teaming on Mixed Match Challenge and Banks could align with her partner on the main television shows and enter into a feud with Finn Balor and Bayley.

Not only would this promote Mixed Match Challenge on television, but it would also give all four superstars involved something relatively worthwhile to do for the next couple of months.
