5 things AJ Styles is yet to accomplish in WWE

AJ Styles still has a lot to achieve in his WWE career

Very few WWE Superstars have achieved as much as AJ Styles has during his first two years with the company.

“The Phenomenal One” has been involved in more show-stealing matches than anybody in that time, while it took him just eight months after his debut to win the WWE Championship.

He has since become a two-time WWE champion, featuring at two WrestleMania events along the way, and he has also had two reigns with the United States title.

In this article, discounting Royal Rumble and Money In The Bank victories (they’re obvious!), we take a look at five things that he is yet to accomplish in WWE.

#5 Main-event WrestleMania

AJ Styles fought Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 33

If WrestleMania main events were booked on in-ring ability alone, then AJ Styles would currently be on course for his third successive headline match on “The Grandest Stage of Them All”.

Sadly, however, matches are not decided on in-ring skills and Styles is yet to feature at the top of the card in either of his two WrestleMania appearances so far (against Chris Jericho in 2016 and Shane McMahon in 2017).

Barring a miracle, “The Phenomenal One” will defend the WWE Championship against Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura in one of the most anticipated matches at WrestleMania 34.

Once again, the match is not expected to go on last, but if Styles continues to steal the show over the next 2-3 years, then it’ll surely only be a matter of time before he is deemed worthy of headlining WWE’s biggest show of the year.

#4 Win a Tag Team title

AJ Styles has formed plenty of brief alliances, including with Shinsuke Nakamura

AJ Styles’ first major WWE appearance came at the 2016 Royal Rumble, where he entered at #3 and lasted 29 minutes before being eliminated by Kevin Owens.

Over the next two months, “The Face That Runs The Place” was involved in a rivalry with Chris Jericho which initially began when the two men became a tag team (who can forget Y2AJ?!), with their final match together being a losing effort at the Tag Team titles against The New Day.

Since then, Styles has been involved in television storylines over the WWE Championship and United States Championship but he is yet to find a partner to challenge for the Tag Team titles again.

With another WWE draft surely on the horizon after WrestleMania 34, perhaps this accomplishment will be ticked off by the end of 2018.

#3 Create his own faction

AJ Styles battled against Finn Balor at TLC 2017

AJ Styles was the leader of wrestling’s most popular faction, Bullet Club, between April 2014 and January 2016.

Competing alongside Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and many more, Styles cemented his status as one of the best in-ring performers in the world during his time with the stable.

He briefly reunited with Gallows and Anderson on WWE television in 2016, but they were only aligned together for a three-month spell while “The Phenomenal One” battled against Roman Reigns and John Cena.

With the Balor Club recently getting together, wouldn’t it be great to see Styles create his own stable from scratch to take on his former faction members?

#2 Win the Intercontinental title

The Miz has become synonymous with the Intercontinental title

According to data from profightdb.com, AJ Styles has competed in 12 matches for the Intercontinental Championship since he joined WWE in January 2016.

You may not have seen any of them, though, as all 12 (three against Kevin Owens and nine against Dean Ambrose) took place at live events and the rivalries were never featured on Raw or SmackDown Live.

As we saw with Roman Reigns recently, and even with Styles last year, holding a secondary championship isn’t always a demotion and a reign with the IC title could potentially lead to “The Phenomenal One” becoming a Grand Slam champion one day.

#1 Pin Roman Reigns

R
Roman Reigns rarely loses via pinfall

Roman Reigns has been pinned by 13 different Superstars during his time in WWE, with his most recent pinfall losses coming against The Miz and Seth Rollins.

You would imagine that AJ Styles would be among those 13 names but, despite the two men having a two-month rivalry in 2016, he was unable to pin the then-WWE champion during that time.

Reigns and Styles have arguably been the biggest full-time stars on Raw and SmackDown Live, respectively, ever since the brand split took place in July 2016.

If and when the two men are on the same brand again, “The Phenomenal One” will surely record a 1-2-3 win over “The Big Dog” at some stage.
