Goldberg had an opportunity to win the Royal Rumble match in 2004 when he bagged the No. 30 spot in the match by winning a battle royal on WWE RAW. At the event, prior to the free-for-all, he had a confrontation with WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. When Goldberg entered the match, he destroyed everyone in his path and eliminated Superstars one after the other. To everyone's surprise, Brock Lesnar came out to the ring when Goldberg was about to hit a Jackhammer on Big Show and executed an F-5 on him. This allowed Kurt Angle to throw Goldberg out.

Goldberg was a favorite to win this year's Royal Rumble match
In the 2017 Royal Rumble match, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar crossed paths again, with Goldberg eliminating Lesnar this time around, and exacting revenge for what had happened in 2004. Minutes later, he was eliminated from the match by The Undertaker. This was it for Goldberg and his appearances in the Royal Rumble match. Many believed that he would enter the match this year and win it all to bag a shot at Roman Reigns' title at WrestleMania, but it seems like that's not going to happen, after what transpired on RAW Legends Night.

He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback.
