The year, 1997; the event, Survivor Series; the place, Montreal, Canada. On this night, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels faced each other for the very last time. Hart was the champion but was leaving for WCW, Shawn was the guy Vince wanted to win the title but Bret did not want to drop it to HBK in his hometown. Vince McMahon feared about the champion walking out with the championship, only to show up in the WCW.

However, Vince couldn’t take any chance of Bret leaving for WCW with the belt. So, the finish that the fans saw in Montreal and watching at home that night was very anti-climatic. Bret was totally unaware of the plan agreed upon by Vince, Michaels, and a few others. About halfway through the match with Bret Locked in on own Sharpshooter submission hold, referee Earl Hebner immediately signalled for the bell awarding the bout and the title to Shawn Michaels.

The Hitman spat in the face of McMahon at ringside. Following a massive tirade that included him punching McMahon in the face backstage, Bret left for WCW and was never the same.

The two had their issues that began after Bret put Shawn over at WrestleMania XII and Shawn did not return the favour at WrestleMania XII. Everyone believes he faked a knee injury. In January 2010, everything changed and the two put their differences aside and embraced in the middle of the ring.
