There are few things that kill the mood quite like WWE having a heel win the Royal Rumble, and having them go on to headline WrestleMania. It is a mistake the company can't afford to make.

Not only is this evident by fans hopefully starting to return for WrestleMania season, but also for the simple reason the company needs to maintain its current run of success.

The Royal Rumble pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the road to WrestleMania 37, and WWE runs the risk of running fans away from the product, should a heel emerge victorious. That doesn't mean WWE has to give the fans exactly what they want, but they need to avoid doing things that could be deemed too unpopular.

A heel winning the Royal Rumble would probably be a worst case scenario for the company, and hurt a lot of the momentum they are building. That's not something WWE is going to want to deal with during their most important time of the year, which is why they need to be extra careful about who goes on to headline WrestleMania 37.
