5 things WWE got wrong on Raw this week - 7th May 2018

This week's edition of Raw was a progressive, but WWE still made some wrong decisions

This week on WWE programming, the company commenced the build to the 2018 Money In The Bank pay-per-view, and for the most of this week’s episode of Raw, WWE presented an entertaining broadcast that highlighted the creative team’s goal of moving forward.

However, while Raw succeeded in certain parts, the creative team made a few mistakes which dragged the episode down

These are mistakes that might derail several stars momentum heading into the next pay-per-view, as certain booking decisions made on this week’s broadcast of Raw lacked reason, motivation and an end goal in sight. Therefore, with the build to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view paving new roads for many wrestlers WWE should’ve used that same idea throughout the entire show.

#1 The generic opening to the show

A scene witnessed a thousand times

Gone are the days of Monday Night Raw opening in white hot fashion, as general manager announcements, authority figures autocratic promos and segments that just booked to set up matches are dominating WWE’s creative list of way to open up their flagship show.

Moreover, this week was no different, as Kurt Angle, Braun Strowman, and Kevin Owens opened the show in an underwhelming fashion.

This opening segment only did two things, the first being Kurt Angle announcing the qualifying matches for the Money In The Bank ladder match and secondly, it set up the first qualifying match between Strowman and Owens in a disappointing fashion.

WWE need to reinvent their opening segments, as that first few minutes could define how hot or dull the rest of the broadcast could become.

#2 Ziggler and McIntyre have no direction

These two men are impressive as a team, but now WWE needs to find a remarkable narrative for them

All the Shawn Michels and Diesel comparisons aside, the Ziggler-McIntyre alliance might be the freshest thing on Monday Night Raw in a long time, as these previously underused stars have a new found aggression that seems to have rejuvenated their careers.

However, while WWE's booking of the newly formed duo is impressive, as they have won every match they have competed in, their participation in regular squash matches are going to go stale.

Therefore, instead of showing up and just beating opponents, Ziggler and McIntyre need to put the motivations they yelled in their promos to action, as WWE needs to find a reliable narrative to book them in.

#3 An missed opportunity with Lashley

A moment that could've defined Lashley's second WWE run

When WWE decided to delve deeper into the man that is Bobby Lashley, they probably should’ve decided on focusing on the different aspects that make up his life and career.

As this week on Monday Night Raw, Lashley sat down with Renee Young in a pre-taped interview and spoke about his love and appreciation for his family.

While Lashley's tales about his siblings were touching and a fresh change of pace, the creative team should’ve used this opportunity to explore the reasons for Lashley's return to the company, his future goals on Raw, and how he has changed as an in-ring competitor.

WWE should’ve used this opportune time to make fans feel more connected to Lashley, and they should’ve done that by creating a more excellent interview.

#4 Titus slides back into obscurity

WWE is ruining the credibility of many of their Raw Superstars

When WWE decides to try their hand at comedy most of the time, it is a hit and miss situation.

However, when Titus O'Neal's unexpected fall at the Greatest Royal Rumble sparked a white-hot run for the former WWE Tag Team Champion, many expected Titus Worldwide to at least garner a bit of credibility on the flagship show.

However, WWE once again refused to utilize these underused Superstars. Raw already lacks a considerable amount of significant talent that can fill out a three-hour broadcast.

Thus, when WWE decided to end Titus's newly found popularity this week on Raw, many felt the company made a mistake. While Corbin and the Revival need all the momentum, they can get, Titus Worldwide and No way Jose is in need of a boost of credibility themselves.

#5 Bobby Roode, the vanilla babyface

Roode is much more valuable as a condescending heel

When Bobby Roode made his NXT debut in 2016, he quickly turned into the hottest heels down at Full Sail University, and fans couldn’t wait to witness Roode tear the house down with huge babyfaces such as AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor on the main roster.

However, WWE chose to turn Roode from the hottest heel in the company to the most boring babyface on the main roster. Moreover, the only thing that could warrant Roode as a credible babyface is the popularity of his theme song, and that too has gotten stale at this point.

This week on Raw, Roode battled Elias in a reasonably competitive match, but once again this match had no real backstory, and even though Bobby picked up the win, WWE is missing a huge opportunity in keeping character his stagnant
