5 Wrestlers WWE should have released

There are a few WWE Superstars whom WWE should have released in place of the fan-favorites

WWE released eight superstars on May 6, namely Wade Barrett, Santino Marella, Damien Sandow, Alex Riley, El Torito, Cameron, Hornswoggle and Cameron. While all of the above, except for Barrett were on the fringes of Raw and SmackDown, there are many others in the back who should be thankful that their jobs are still safe.

What about Sandow’s one-time partner Curtis Axel ?? He hasn’t done much for a long time either – and don’t get me started on Eva Marie!!

This list basically looks at five other superstars who are lucky to keep their jobs in the current scenario

5. Jack Swagger

Despite his athleticism, his gimmick didn’t get as much success as WWE expected

It is a huge surprise that former World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger is still an employee of the WWE – It seems that it will be better for both parties to let him leave the company.

Let us be honest, WWE has had no use for Swagger other than hoisting the national flag and jobbing to some non- US Superstar. The fans are not buying his American Patriot gimmick and nobody really cares that he exists.

On the other hand, Swagger has been tremendously underutilized by the company for so long that it seems strange that he wants to remain there in the first place. He might be better off wrestling in ROH or even TNA as he is still an immensely recognizable Superstar and a trip to either one of the promotions might revitalize his career – like it did for guys like Christian and Derrick Bateman.

4. Rosa Mendes

There is hardly any place left for her in the current Women’s Division

Rosa Mendes is currently off WWE TV on pregnancy leave, but it is hardly fathomable that she will do anything noteworthy if he returns to in-ring competition.

Mendes’ various prior gimmicks as the intern of Beth Phoenix, manager of Primo & Epico and as the valet of Fandango never made any mark. While she has the glam quotient, she would find it difficult to be considered a serious player in the women's’ division, particularly considering the fact that wrestlers like Emma, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Paige are active in the division.

She might be restricted to some backstage interviewing role, but she faces tough competition there too with the likes of Renee Young and Jo-Jo.

3. Tamina

Off-TV with an injury

Tamina Snuka has been with the WWE for some time now, but all her exploits haven’t been vital in any way to the women's’ division. While she may have an impressive physique, her total lack of charisma is a great drawback.

She has failed pitifully in her current gimmick as the fodder to Naomi in Team B.A.D – the WWE’s hopes of turning Tamina, Naomi and Sasha Banks into the ‘New Day’ of the Divas division produced some of the worst promos and ridiculous exchanges on the microphone that fans have seen in a long time.

It has been quite clear for some time that Tamina can’t have a successful singles run – should she continue to have any type of run at all??

2. The Ascension

From stars to jobbers – The Ascension has not ascended to its potential

It is quite a fall from grace for the longest reigning NXT tag team champions – floundering since day one on landing in the main roster, the Ascension has been relegated to jobber status in recent times.

They have lost to almost every tag team on Raw and even had a run as the cronies of lower mid carder Stardust. Konnor and Viktor might have been pretty over in NXT and they are indeed talented, but they are of no use to the WWE in their current gimmick as the new Demolition.

It might be in the best interests of Konnor and Viktor to try greener pastures as well.

1. David Otunga

Otunga never prospered despite the push be received

It will be surprising for many a fan to learn that David Otunga is still employed by the WWE. Otunga hasn’t appeared on Raw or SmackDown for some time now and the only glance of him are on the pre-shows.

Even when he was an active wrestler, he was mediocre at best – He seemed to be the weak link in the Nexus, blundered as an authority figure, but still managed to win the tag team titles. Quite an achievement for some one with Otunga’s wrestling skills.

Unless Otunga is using his Harvard law school skills in some capacity for the WWE, there is no reason for him to be associated with the company at all.
