Stone Cold is one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. He was introduced by Vince McMahon at the 2009 Hall of Fame as the "greatest superstar of all time". A number of prominent industry figures have claimed that his popularity surpassed that of Hulk Hogan.

Stone Cold first won the 1997 Royal Rumble event when he eliminated Bret Hart. In the 1998 Royal Rumble, he won the match after he eliminated The Rock. He went on to capture the WWE title for the first time at Wrestlemania that year when he defeated Shawn Michaels.

This win cemented him as the face of the organisation as he led the other Superstars in ushering in the Attitude Era.

Steve Austin also won the 2001 Royal Rumble after eliminating Kane. This led to his second Wrestlemania encounter with the Rock. The other Superstars close to breaking this record are John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Batista and Triple H, all with two wins a piece.
