Okay, so we all know WWE loves to be shocking and, as part of that, pair together the oddest couples possible!
With WWE being episodic, you can always bet that romance will play into some storylines, and over the years, the company has proven that they love a romantic angle between the oddest of couples and unlikeliest of Superstars, so I'm going to try and run down the top five oddest romantic pairings in WWE history.
#5 Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss
Well, where better to start than with the most recent one? Alexa Bliss is dating 205 Live and NXT star Buddy Murphy in real life, but who are WWE to miss a beat? When the Mixed Match Challenge was announced, WWE HAD to pair their smallest female with one of the biggest guys, and of course, things were going to get awkward...
And with Team Little Big still in the MMC, you can bet this story isn't over yet.
#4 Dawn Marie and Al Wilson
Two words, "Naked wedding." For those who don't remember, Al Wilson is the father of Torrie Wilson, now best remembered for one of the strangest segments in WWE history.
So, this one all started when Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie were feuding and Dawn Marie decided the best way to add fuel to the fire was to, well, seduced Torrie's father - and this one got all kinds of odd.
Even though this was all scripted, it still got a bit much at times with Torrie Wilson watching her father and her on-screen rival fondling in the showers and her dad being stripped to his underwear in the middle of the ring.
That wasn't even the strangest part, no. Al Wilson eventually proposed to Dawn Marie, only for it to be revealed that Dawn had set her sights on someone else... Al's daughter Torrie!
Well, the payoff of sorts came when Dawn Marie agreed to call off the wedding on one condition - Torrie must spend the night with her in the hotel. She did, and, well, the wedding still went ahead, but with the added twist of the couple tying the knot in merely their underwear.
Strange enough yet? Well, there's more, because why not? The ACTUAL pay-off came when, on their honeymoon, Al Wilson passed away while consumating the marriage, settinging up WWE's first-ever, and so far only, Stepmother versus Stepdaughter match at the Royal Rumble.
If there was ever reason to be thankful for the women's revolution, this adds to the mountain of them, maybe it even goes right at the top.
#3 Nia Jax and Enzo Amore
Well, thankfully this one was over before it really got off the ground.
In another typical WWE move, they decided to pair WWE's biggest and strongest lady with, well, Enzo.
We had a strung out storyline of Nia "sliding into Enzo's DMs" - yep, that's really how the commentary team said it, and WWE tried to put Jax and Enzo into a romance/comedy angle.
In the end, it only really saw Nia and Enzo exchange some eye contact and awful, awkward flirting - with Nia often using Enzo's "How you doin'?" catchphrase on the Certified G himself.
WWE essentially built Nia up as a killing machine and a dominant force, to then have her turn to putty at the sight of Enzo. We'll just be glad WWE is PG nowadays, and be even more thankful that nothing came of this one aside from some awkwardness on Raw.
#2 Lita and Kane
From something that didn't happen to something that probably shouldn't have.
The worst part about this one is that it helped none of the Superstars involved. Lita is arguably one of the revolutionaries of WWE's Women's Division and Kane is just a model professional whom his peers have nothing but praise for.
This one all started after Lita's on-screen relationship with then-boyfriend Matt Hardy hit the rocks. When the two got back together after a break-up, Kane started lurking.
As you could probably predict, any time Hardy tried to intervene, The Big Red Machine would pretty much annihilate him. This put Lita in a tough spot where she essentially gave in to Kane's demands of a relationship to save the life of, well, the love of her life.
The most awkward part of this angle came, though, when we found out Lita was pregnant with Kane's child. Matt and Kane eventually fought in a Till Death Do Us Part Match at SummerSlam for Lita's hand in marriage, and of course, Kane won.
Wait, I lied - THIS is where it gets awkward. Kane actually became the good guy in this story! Gene Snitsky caused Lita to miscarry her and Kane's child and The Devil's Favourite Demon went on a rampage to avenge the death of his unborn baby.
Thankfully, news leaked that Lita was in a relationship off-screen with Edge and WWE let this one fizzle out. This story went pretty close to the bone in a way that WWE thankfully tends to avoid now in terms of bordering on sexual assault - something which Kane seems to get a bit of a rough time with, but we're going to follow in the footsteps of WWE and never mention Katie Vick's name ever again.
#1 Mark Henry and Mae Young
First of all, lets put our hands together for the top couple. Okay, maybe not.
The Attitude Era gets a lot of praise among the WWE Universe, but if you ever think something on WWE television is slightly ridiculous now, it will never be as odd as this angle.
The one thing you have to say about this angle is that Mae Young was probably the model employee for WWE, she'd do anything with a smile on her face - even being put through a table or taking a clothesline in her later years.
While her physical condition wasn't in jeopardy here, Mae Young gave her all in this storyline when paired with The World's Strongest Man.
WWE had booked Mark Henry in an equally spot as a sexual deviant, a casanova - to put it politely. Well, no woman could tame Sexual Chocolate - that was until a 75-year-old wrestling legend came along.
This one saw Mae Young appear on TV completely topless, and give birth to a hand!
Thankfully, this one was also short-lived but, boy, it sure was a rollercoaster! Almost two decades later and almost every fan still remembers the birth of that rubber hand on Raw.
