5 WWE Superstars in danger of being released after WrestleMania

There's not enough hype in the world to turn this one around

There is a lot going on right now as wrestling fans prepare for the biggest event of the year, which is obviously WrestleMania. For some fans, it is the equivalent to how some look forward to the SuperBowl, or perhaps how baseball fans prepare for the World Series. Nonetheless, it is our favorite time of the year and we go all out for this grand spectacle.

With all of the hype and the pageantry that surrounds WrestleMania, there is often times a crash afterward, if you will, and one of the things that typically happens in the days, or sometimes weeks after, is contract terminations. While it doesn't always take place, there have been plenty of instances in the past to support this claim.

Looking at the current WWE lineup of rosters, from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT, who are some of the current Superstars you see that could be in danger of being cut? Here's a look at 5 current WWE Superstars who could be in danger of being released in the aftermath of WrestleMania 34.

#1 The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor)

We are still waiting for The Ascension to "rise"

This one is a bit disappointing for me to include in this list. If you have followed me or my writing for any amount of time, chances are, you know how much I genuinely like and support The Ascension. Having followed them since the old FCW days, as well as meeting them both in person on several occasions, I have grown fond of the duo. However, life on the main roster has not been very welcoming for Viktor and Konnor.

Looking back now, it's hard to believe that these guys were once one of the hottest tag teams in wrestling while they were bulldozing through everyone in NXT. Their reign as NXT Tag Team Champions was something worth noting. But just as the cream rose to the top, things just as quickly went south for the former NXT Tag Champs.

As they currently battle their way out of this wet paper bag, that is the current storyline with Breezeango, it's hard to see light at the end of the proverbial tunnel for these highly skilled Superstars. Unfortunately, I can definitely see these guys being called to the carpet in the near future and being wished well on their future endeavors.

#2 Curtis Axel

From former Intercontinental Champion-to-obscurity

Once again I am listing an individual whom I'd rather not. In fact, I wish there was a way to change everything and have Curtis Axel on the winning end of some sort of mid-card push at the very least. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen and it appears WWE's creative brass has very little interest in elevating the Ax-Man.

I will give credit to the company for the time the did give Axel a shot. Afterall, not many WWE Superstars get the luxury of having Paul Heyman as your mouthpiece, much less while you carry the Intercontinental Title as well.

As a younger WWE fan, I loved watching Mr. Perfect. That gimmick fit Hennig perfectly and he knew it. Hennig had a plethora of charisma, but unfortunately for his baby boy, that charisma was not passed through the generations.

Curtis Axel would likely make a great coach at the WWE Performance Center, but his days as an in-ring contender are likely nearing an end.

#3 Dana Brooke

Dana Brooke is a product of poor booking decisions

When I first saw Dana Brooke in NXT, I really thought this was a great addition to the roster and she could potentially turn into something worth talking about. However, it just seems now that the pieces have yet to fit together, for one reason or another, with no signs of things changing for the better either.

Dana Brooke came into the business after a career in the fitness and bodybuilding industry. She is built like a machine and is absolutely gorgeous. With her look and build, I was hoping we had the second coming of the Glamazon Beth Phoenix. Needless to say, Brooke has failed to fill those stilettos.

Dana Brooke is currently doing sideline work for Titus O'Neil and his "Titus Worldwide" faction. While she is certainly good eye candy for this eccentric band of nerds, Brooke needs a role where she is contributing more than simply holding a clipboard.

#4 Mojo Rawley

Mojo Rawley has been all "HYPE" so far

When I first saw Mojo Rawley perform in NXT, I thought he would never make it to the main roster. Needless to say, I was very surprised to see him get the call-up, courtesy of the brand extension.

Despite having a gimmick centered around being and staying hype, Rawley still lacks some simple, fundamental attributes which separate him from being considered a legitimate WWE Superstar, instead of being looked at like a complete joke.

Rawley came to the company after a lifetime of devotion to the game of American football. He was such a hustler as a football player and really became the ultimate over-achiever. He transferred to the University of Maryland, from a Division 3 school and, after proving himself to the coaching staff, he would actually earn a full scholarship. Rawley entered the NFL as an undrafted free-agent but saw very little playing time before ending up on the injured reserve list to finish his career.

Mojo Rawley is an obnoxious on-screen moniker. However, he is also a very passionate athlete who wants to win everything. Unfortunately for him, I just don't believe professional wrestling is the proper platform to give Mojo that chance.

#5 Neville

Things have gotten tense between Neville and WWE officials

Make no mistake about this post, I am in no way saying that Neville should be heading towards the door, but it's obvious that the writing has been on the wall for quite some time now.

Neville is one of the most talented performers currently under contract. His ring work is absolutely flawless and his character has improved by leaps and bounds since being elevated from NXT to the main roster.

While there has not been any sort of official word from either side, it appears Neville is battling with a little home-sickness, so-to-speak. Both sides have remained tight-lipped about Neville's status and he has not been active for several months.

Personally, I would love to see things work out and for Neville to get back on the saddle. Unfortunately, there has been very little, if any indication of that actually coming to fruition. Regardless of what happens, I hope Neville finds fulfilment in whatever direction he is pursuing.
