'Stone Cold' Steve Austin is one of the most beloved stars in wrestling history, a King of the Ring winner, a Royal Rumble winner and a six-time WWF Champion.

But less than a year before Austin would win his first world championship, the Rattlesnake's career was nearly ended at Summerslam 1997.

Meeting Owen Hart for the Intercontinental title, the usually-safe Blackheart delivered a botched Piledriver to Austin, who took the full force on his head.

His neck broken, Austin was temporarily paralyzed in the ring, but later got his mobility back.

Acting on instinct, Austin rolled up Hart to win the title, though he'd be forced to vacate the gold shortly after on RAW, before neck injuries forced the Bionic Redneck to retire from in-ring competition in 2003.
