5 WWE Superstars who should be added to the Universal title match at WrestleMania 34

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns is set for WrestleMania

Roman Reigns outlasted six other men at the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view to book his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 34, where he will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

Since the WrestleMania 31 rematch was made official, it’s been rumoured that WWE is keeping their options open and that there’s a small chance of Braun Strowman being added to the match.

“The Monster Among Men” is currently without an obvious opponent at WrestleMania, but would he really be the right third man if WWE makes the match a Triple Threat?

In this article, we take a look at five Superstars who WWE should consider adding to Lesnar vs. Reigns.

#5 Finn Balor

Finn Balor was the first Universal champion

The reason Finn Balor deserves to be included in this list is obvious: he still hasn’t received a rematch for the Universal Championship that he was forced to relinquish after SummerSlam 2016.

Of course, we know the Irishman won’t be added to the match – he has his sights set on the Intercontinental title right now – but there’s arguably nobody more deserving than him to challenge for Raw’s main title on “The Grandest Stage of Them All”.

Reports have suggested that Vince McMahon doesn’t feel Balor is ‘over’ enough to face the mighty Brock Lesnar, and that’s why the two didn’t meet (as previously rumoured) for the title at the Royal Rumble.

nHowever, adding Finn to the Universal title mix at WrestleMania 34, with Reigns remaining the other challenger, would have elevated him to the next level and truly solidified him as the biggest 'over' babyface in WWE.

#4 The Undertaker

It’s widely expected that The Undertaker will return at WrestleMania 34 to face John Cena in what will almost certainly be the final match of his illustrious WWE career.

However, it wouldn’t have been the worst idea in the world if WWE added him to the Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns – the only two men who have defeated him on the WrestleMania stage.

Of course, this match will not happen (it’s far too late to build towards it now), but it would have made for an interesting storyline if the Universal title was up for grabs, as well as ‘Taker’s career if he were to lose.

#3 Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman eliminated five men at Elimination Chamber

Well, he had to appear in this list somewhere! Roman Reigns might be “The Guy” in WWE these days, but Braun Strowman has been the guy as far as Monday Night Raw is concerned over the last year.

The former Wyatt Family member has a history with the two WrestleMania main-eventers, defeating Reigns twice on PPV in 2017 and losing three times to Brock Lesnar in the last seven months.

After only featuring on the kickoff show at WrestleMania 33, it’d be a travesty if Strowman doesn’t have a high-profile match at WrestleMania 34, especially when you consider he was initially rumoured to be teaming with Ronda Rousey to face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Besides, he still hasn’t accomplished his goal of defeating Lesnar, while he lost when it mattered most to Reigns at Elimination Chamber, so the storyline is already there if WWE wants to add Strowman to the match.

#2 Samoa Joe (and Braun Strowman)

Samoa Joe is currently sidelined with a foot injury

Samoa Joe injured his foot during a match against Rhyno on Raw in January 2018 and he hasn’t competed in a match since, with latest reports suggesting he could be back around mid-March ahead of WrestleMania 34.

Before his two recent injury setbacks, Joe main-evented three pay-per-views in a row, including the Universal Championship match at SummerSlam 2017 with Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman.

The former NXT champion still has unfinished business with all three men, and while it wouldn’t be the most original idea to have the four Raw heavyweights do battle in a rematch from SummerSlam, it would feel wrong to add Strowman to the Lesnar vs. Reigns match and not include Joe.

The Fatal 4-Way stole the show at SummerSlam and there’s a good chance it could do the same at WrestleMania.

#1 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins left WrestleMania 31 as WWE champion

Seth Rollins has hardly been in the Universal Championship picture since losing two matches for the title in August 2016, while he currently has his sights set on challenging The Miz for the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 34.

While a multi-man match, also involving Finn Balor and possibly others, for Miz’s title will undoubtedly be great to watch, it feels like a step back for Rollins after he previously won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 31 and conquered Triple H at WrestleMania 33.

WWE is revisiting the WrestleMania 31 main event by having Roman Reigns face Brock Lesnar again at WrestleMania 34. The first match between the two exceeded expectations but is best remembered for Rollins’ dramatic Money In The Bank cash-in at the end.

Surely, three years on from that memorable moment, it would make for a better match (and storyline) to add Rollins to Lesnar vs. Reigns at this year’s ‘Mania?
