WWE WrestleMania 34: 5 legends most likely to appear

The Rock has appeared at six of the last seven WrestleManias

While the matches that take place at WrestleMania are all about the present and future of the wrestling business, WWE always does a great job of honoring its legends at the company’s biggest event of the year.

Several famous faces from the past have appeared in WrestleMania segments in recent years, from The Rock and Steve Austin to Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels, and a few more are bound to appear at this year’s show in New Orleans.

In this article, we look at the five legends who are most likely to feature in some capacity at WrestleMania 34.

#5 Steve Austin

Steve Austin made a rare televised WWE appearance when he opened Raw 25 in January by hitting Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon with Stone Cold stunners, but what are the chances that he appears again at WrestleMania 34?

Well, the Hall of Famer will be in town for a WrestleCon convention that weekend and he is due to sign autographs in New Orleans on the day of ‘Mania, so it’s almost certain that he’ll be at the event as a spectator even if he’s not part of the show.

If he does appear on screen, there isn’t an obvious match that he could potentially get involved with, so the best bet is probably a backstage segment with various other legends.

#4 Rey Mysterio

Widespread reports last month suggested that Rey Mysterio had replaced The Undertaker as John Cena’s planned WrestleMania 34 opponent.

However, those claims proved to be false and “The Master of the 619” hasn’t appeared on WWE television since he made a surprise return as an entrant in the 2018 Royal Rumble.

The WCW legend confirmed following the event that he is in talks with WWE about another run with the company, but those plans may have been put on hold after Mysterio was forced to cancel his scheduled match with Jushin Liger at NJPW‘s Strong Style Evolved show this weekend due to a bicep injury.

It remains to be seen if Rey will even be cleared for action by the time of WrestleMania 34. Either way, like Steve Austin, he is in New Orleans that weekend for a WrestleCon convention, so there’s every chance he’ll be at “The Show of Shows” in some capacity.

#3 Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan is in talks about a return to WWE

Hulk Hogan was released by WWE in July 2015 after audio emerged of him using racist language in a tape from 2006.

It looked at the time as if his career in wrestling was over. However, it now seems more likely than ever that he could return, with PW Insider reporting on Thursday that the WWE legend has been in talks with the company for several weeks.

With or without Hogan, WWE already has a must-see WrestleMania card lined up for this year’s show in New Orleans, so it’s not like Vince McMahon & Co. are in desperate need of star power.

That said, WrestleMania is an event that Hogan is synonymous with, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if WWE rushed his return in time for the show.

#2 The Rock

When WrestleMania season comes around, there are usually several reports about whether The Rock will wrestle on the show. This year, however, talk has quietened about the potential return of “The Great One”, possibly because there won’t be enough time for a match or lengthy promo segment alongside this year’s stacked card.

Then again, this is The Rock and WrestleMania we’re talking about, and it’s highly doubtful that Vince McMahon would ever pass up the chance to have one of his greatest performers appear at “The Show of Shows” if he happens to be available.

If he does make an appearance, we can probably expect the eight-time WWE champion to be involved in a sing-a-long with Elias.

#1 Goldberg

Goldberg will be inducted into the Hall of Fame before WrestleMania 34

Technically, we’re cheating here as Goldberg will definitely appear at WrestleMania 34 as part of the annual Hall of Fame introductions on the ‘Mania stage midway through the show.

Still, there’s a small possibility that he even gets involved in the action in New Orleans, with UK publication The Sun claiming in February that the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee is a frontrunner to win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Goldberg hasn’t had a match in WWE since he lost the Universal Championship to Brock Lesnar at last year’s WrestleMania. However, he has reiterated since that he will not rule out a return to the squared circle, so perhaps we could see him in the multi-man match.
