6 WWE Superstars who defeated Braun Strowman in singles matches

Braun Strowman is a tough man to defeat

Ever since bursting onto the WWE scene in 2015, Braun Strowman has proven himself to be one of the most difficult Superstars to defeat one-on-one in the history of the company.

“The Monster Among Men” has lost his fair share of multi-man matches, mostly during his time with the Wyatt Family, but he boasts an impressive record of having lost just seven times (against six different people) in singles matches since his August 2015 debut.

In this article, we take a look at all six WWE Superstars who have succeeded in defeating the monstrous 385-pounder.

#6 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman have had some epic encounters

Let’s begin by stating that the 2018 Elimination Chamber finale, where Roman Reigns pinned Braun Strowman to book his ticket to WrestleMania 34, doesn’t count in this article because technically it was still a seven-man match, not a singles match.

Even discounting that triumph, Reigns has picked up more victories in singles matches (2) over “The Monster Among Men” than anybody else in WWE.

The first came way back in October 2015 – two months after Strowman debuted as a member of the Wyatt Family – when Reigns launched him over the announce table during a match on Raw and crawled back into the ring to win via countout.

“The Big Dog” defeated him for the second time at Fastlane 2017, when he moved out of the way of a top-rope splash and hit his giant opponent with a spear to pick up the victory.

#5 The Big Show

The Big Show battled Braun Strowman in February 2016

The Big Show failed to defeat Braun Strowman in two of the three matches that they had on Raw in 2017, while the other encounter ended as a draw after a middle-rope suplex on “The World’s Largest Athlete” caused the ring to implode.

One year earlier, however, Big Show fared a little better (sort of) when he was attacked by Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan during his February 2016 match against Strowman on Raw, meaning he won via disqualification.

It wasn’t the prettiest of outcomes to a match (you may remember it because Big Show had to appear on The Stone Cold Podcast immediately after the show), but the record books state that it was a victory for the 7-footer.

#4 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn survived 10 minutes against Braun Strowman

Sami Zayn begged and pleaded with Mick Foley, the former Raw General Manager, to let him face Braun Strowman at Roadblock: End of the Line in December 2016. Foley agreed, but only on the condition that Strowman had to defeat Zayn inside 10 minutes. If he didn’t, the victory would go to Zayn.

With Foley in Zayn’s corner at ringside, “The Underdog From The Underground” struck Strowman with a Helluva Kick towards the end of the 10-minute countdown, therefore winning the match by simply surviving his monstrous opponent.

The two men fought in two more televised Raw matches during that time, with the former Wyatt Family member picking up the win on both occasions.

#3 Kalisto

Nobody gave Kalisto a chance against Braun Strowman

When a 5ft 6in person fights a 6ft 8in person in the real world, there’s only going to be one winner. However, in the crazy world of sports entertainment, size doesn’t count for everything and anything can happen.

In April 2017, a week after Braun Strowman sent The Big Show crashing through the Raw ring canvas, “The Monster Among Men” looked to continue his path of destruction against the much smaller Kalisto in a Dumpster Match.

However, things didn’t quite go according to plan, as the former Lucha Dragon wriggled his way out of a gorilla press and connected with a sharp kick to the shins of Strowman, who lost his balance and landed in the dumpster.

Sore loser Strowman wasn’t finished with his victorious opponent, throwing him inside the dumpster before wheeling it off the Raw stage.

#2 John Cena

John Cena defeated Braun Strowman via disqualification

John Cena has recorded some huge milestone victories in his illustrious career, but it’s fair to say that his September 2017 win against Braun Strowman on Raw would struggle to even make the top 500.

Two weeks prior to Cena vs. Roman Reigns and Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar at No Mercy 2017, “The Monster Among Men” powerslammed “Big Match John” onto a set of steel steps during their singles match on Raw, leading to a disqualification.

Although Superstars are allowed to put each other through announce desks and throw each other against the steps during regular matches, this outcome seemingly confirmed that it is against the rules for a similar kind of manoeuvre to take place inside the ring.

#1 Brock Lesnar

The Fatal 4-Way SummerSlam main event between Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe stole the show, but there’s no doubt that everybody emerged from that event wanting to see Lesnar vs. Strowman in a singles match.

One month later, at the Raw-exclusive No Mercy pay-per-view, that’s exactly what fans got, with “The Beast” putting his Universal Championship on the line against “The Monster Among Men” in the main event.

Sadly for fans of Strowman, who was slowly becoming a babyface at the time, the nine-minute match was largely considered a disappointment and he was defeated clean after one F5 by Lesnar.
