Orton debuted on the main roster back in 2002 and has been a constant fixture and a vital cog in the company. Him signing a new contract at the age of 39 perhaps means that this is the last contract he will sign as an in-ring competitor.
This removes any scope for him to move to AEW as an in-ring performer, and ties him down with the company.
Chris Jericho, in an interview with Sportskeeda, revealed why Orton signed a new deal with WWE and not AEW.
"But I know this - nobody is getting out of WWE, especially Randy Orton, because unless he’s very, very committed to saying ‘I don’t care if you pay me 20 gazillion dollars I’m leaving’ that’s not what he’s doing. I mean, obviously Vince (McMahon) is going to pay millions and millions of dollars to not have Randy Orton go."
