This was undoubtedly one of the weirdest promotional tactics in WWE history. At WrestleMania 22, Shawn Michaels defeated Vince McMahon in an underrated match. However, their rivalry wasn't over.
Given that Shawn Michaels was a "born-again Christian" post-2000, Vince McMahon decided to use that as a part of the storyline and booked a No Holds Barred Match, where he would team up with his son Shane McMahon to face Shawn Michaels and God himself.
Many wondered how they would get around to it. As it turned out, God turned out to be a spotlight with an entrance theme as well.
It seemed to be a complete mockery and Vince McMahon abruptly announced that "God has left the building", leading to The Spirit Squad interfering and attacking Michaels, allowing Vince McMahon to pin him.
Everything about the feud seemed to be absurd and it's no surprise that WWE has made little mention of it since then. Some things are best forgotten about and this is undoubtedly one of them.
