AEW Fyter Fest: 5 potential finishes for Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela

Who will win this hardcore encounter in Dayton Beach?
Who will win this hardcore encounter in Dayton Beach?

Does anyone really believe Jon Moxley will lose in his AEW debut?

It truly seems like Joey Janela is a very small speed bump on the way to much bigger things for Moxley. Joey Janela has made quite a career of hardcore wrestling in promotions like CZW. His “Bad Boy” persona seems like quite the natural fit for the non-sanctioned match stipulation. It also does adds quite an element of unpredictably to this entire match at AEW Fyter Fest.

So what can truly happen on Saturday? While fans might have a hard time believing in a Moxley loss, there are a variety of possible outcomes to this grudge match in All Elite Wrestling’s second ever show. As we look forward to one of the main events of Fyter Fest, I present my list of top five potential finishes for Jon Moxley versus Joey Janela.

#5 Jon Moxley Wins Clean

It seems logical for the pro wrestling hottest star to win his first AEW match, right?
It seems logical for the pro wrestling hottest star to win his first AEW match, right?

We might as well start with the most likely of possible options.

It just doesn’t seem logical to have Moxley lose in his AEW wrestling debut. He is arguably one of the biggest stars in the company, and he attacked both Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega at the end of AEW’s Double or Nothing. He is now the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion and is about to compete in the prestigious G1 Climax tournament starting in July. That doesn’t scream a guy that should lose his first All Elite Wrestling match right?

I assume that Joey Janela is Moxley’s first opponent because of their shared hardcore wrestling roots. The non-sanctioned stipulation will allow for a brawling and bloody match. But when it is all said and done, it does make sense for Moxley to pick up the clean win and move on to some bigger matches this summer.

#4 Joey Janela Wins Clean

Is it time for the
Is it time for the "Bad Boy" to truly shock the world at AEW Fyter Fest?

This would be one of the biggest shocks in the pro wrestling world if this happens come Saturday night.

Joey Janela has gained his fame through CZW and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. He added to his “Bad Boy” persona with a highly popular WrestleMania weekend indy show called “Joey Janela’s Spring Break”. He could be a major hardcore wrestling star for All Elite Wrestling if they choose to do so.

Imagine what could happen if Joey Janela actually beats Jon Moxley at Fyter Fest. It would immediately be the talk of the pro wrestling world. It would allow AEW to have the reputation of a truly unpredictable promotion where anything can truly happen. Never say never in pro wrestling. Joey Janela beating Jon Moxley would prove that adage for sure.

#3 The Match Ends In A No Contest

If you want to sell yourself as an alternative to the WWE, then having a very bloody hardcore match would be the way to do it. The WWE has been TV-PG for years now, and that limits what a wrestler can do in their matches. The very bloody classic match between Cody and Dustin Rhodes is proof that AEW isn’t concerned about pushing the envelope for their major shows.

Joey Janela and Jon Moxley’s history is a long history of blood and violence. These two could easily sell us on a very bloody affair in Dayton Beach. If you want to sell both as hardcore threats going forward then the match should end in no contest.

Would AEW fans accept this non-finish? It is hard to say but if it is done right then it could set up a true hardcore rivalry that fans have been waiting for in mainstream pro wrestling for years.

#2 Chris Jericho Costs Jon Moxley The Match

Chris Jericho has made no secret on social media that he refusing to attend Fyter Fest. While it fits his heel personal perfectly, from a business standpoint you would want the most mainstream star in AEW at your free pay-per-view. This will be the first show that many new fans will be watching. Thankfully, Chris Jericho has some unfinished business with Jon Moxley.

This new incarnation of Chris Jericho has made a habit of showing up when we least expect him to and built a new feud. He attacked the likes of Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, and EVIL over the recent years. He is not the sort of character that will simply let things go.

At AEW Double or Nothing, Chris Jericho was embarrassed by Jon Moxley. It would be strange to not have a follow up to that surprising moment. What better way to build a major feud then with Chris Jericho’s appearance and costing Jon Moxley his important moment at AEW Fyter Fest?

#1 Kenny Omega Costs Jon Moxley The Match

It was a bad night for Kenny Omega at AEW Double or Nothing. Will he get his revenge of Saturday night?
It was a bad night for Kenny Omega at AEW Double or Nothing. Will he get his revenge of Saturday night?

I am sure Kenny Omega hasn’t forgotten what Jon Moxley did at AEW Double or Nothing either. It was a brutal beating that ended a very memorable show. It would be illogical for “The Cleaner” to let that attack simply go.

They have set a match between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley for the big All Out pay-per-view show. But with this being Moxley’s last AEW event before All Out, it seems like the last chance to build some heat before the big match in Chicago.

And what better way to get some revenge then to cost Jon Moxley his first ever match at Fyter Fest? It would certainly set-up both Kenny and Jon with something to provide as they get ready for their highly anticipated match on August 31st.
