What's the story?

After The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega all declared they were free agents at various points in the past year, all eyes were on The Elite's futures in pro wrestling, as fans eagerly awaited the group's next move.

Questions were answered at the start of 2019, when The Elite announced the formation of All Elite Wrestling, which is gearing up for its third event this coming Saturday night.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks revealed that prior to the formation of AEW, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega were in fact very close to signing with WWE.

In case you didn't know...

Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page made the bold claim back in 2018 that they would decide their futures as a group when they all became free agents, with reports at the time indicating that Page and Rhodes actually turned down very lucrative offers from WWE when they became a free agents.

It was also said that all members of The Elite were offered major deals from WWE, but they all chose to walk away from the giant money deals in favor of launching their own promotion, now known as All Elite Wrestling.

The heart of the matter

In a new interview conducted with Chris Van Vliet, Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks revealed just how close The Bucks and Kenny Omega were to signing with WWE before deciding to launch AEW.

"We talked to [WWE] endlessly," revealed Jackson. "At one point, I remember me, Nick and Kenny were in a room because all of our deals were up at the same time. We got off the phone one day and we looked at each other and we said ‘I think we’re all going to WWE.’ It was that close," he added.
