The Unsanctioned Lights Out Match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega from Full Gear was one of the most barbaric contests that the fans have witnessed in recent history.
While the match was praised by a section of the fanbase for its no-nonsense approach towards hardcore wrestling, many fans and pundits were put off by the cringeworthy nature of the match.
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former WCW announcer Chris Cruise got in touch with Maryland State Athletic Commission regarding the rules on blading and excessive bleeding during matches.
Cruise wanted to know whether there was a commission doctor at ringside during the match. He also wanted some clarity on whether the wrestlers would be allowed to continue if they ended up bleeding heavily, irrespective of the cause.
The commission got back to Cruise after many requests and told him that they prohibit the talents from lacerating themselves or the opponents involved in the match. The commission also revealed that the rules don't allow performers to introduce human and animal blood into the match.
The commission stated that there was no blading conducted during the match.
It was also added that a commission doctor was indeed present at AEW Full Gear to oversee the match. The Maryland State Athletic Commission refrained from providing any further details as a formal investigation on the match was in progress. They claimed that all the questions will be answered once the investigation is done.
Meltzer added that he wasn't sure about the nature of the on-going investigation, however, the initial report from the commission rules out the possibility of any wrongdoing.
Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega, as stated earlier, put on a brutal 39-minute match at Full Gear that was littered with dangerous spots and outrageous weapons, which ended with the former WWE Champion emerging as the victor.
While the match won't be forgotten for the foreseeable future, it would be interesting to see whether there are any negative repercussions after the official investigation wraps up.
