WWE Rumors: Backstage reaction to Kofi Kingston's performance on SmackDown revealed

A fired-up Kofi tells Styles to fight him after AJ told Kingston that he didn't have to continue.

What's the story?

Kofi Kingston took Mustafa Ali's spot in the Elimination Chamber this Sunday, and he even seemingly took his role in the Gauntlet match as well. Kingston stepped up to the plate, going for over an hour in one of the greatest performances in SmackDown Live history.

WrestleVotes may have revealed the backstage reaction to Kingston's performance.

In case you didn't know...

Mustafa Ali was supposed to be a part of the Chamber match on Sunday, but had an injury and was taken out. One of the New Day members was announced to replace him, and starting off the gauntlet match against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, it was Kofi Kingston who ended up taking the spot.

Kingston had a mesmerizing performance, lasting nearly 70 minutes and eliminating WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, multi-time World Champion Jeff Hardy and former NXT Champion Samoa Joe before finally succumbing to AJ Styles.

It was the talk of the night, and fans who weren't aware of Kofi Kingston's potential as a singles star suddenly realized it. Kingston has been in the WWE for a long time, and in 2009, he seemed set for a big singles push as well.

Unfortunately, his run as a main eventer didn't pan out, but many still believe that Kingston should be a world champion in the future.

What's the story?

WrestleVotes stated that despite the fact that Ali was supposed to have the same story, a major opportunity opened up for Kofi Kingston.

It's unfortunate for Ali, who had a lot of momentum himself. Hopefully, he returns in full swing. As for Kingston, he simply took the ball and ran with it. Maybe this might finally mean a singles run for him, without necessarily breaking up The New Day.

Xavier Woods and Big E have openly stated that their goal is to make sure that Kofi Kingston becomes World Champion. We can only hope that they succeed!

What's next?

Kofi Kingston has the most momentum going into Elimination Chamber, so it's going to be interesting to see what his performance is like, win or lose.
