From The WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage update on the return of Neville

Could a return finally be on the table?

Could a return finally be on the table?

What's the story?

Neville hasn't been seen in WWE since October when he lost his Cruiserweight Championship to Enzo Amore and seemingly entered a dispute with WWE over his position within the company.

Even though Neville has remained silent on the topic over the past few months it seems that there could be new hope of a return for the former Cruiserweight Champion.

In case you didn't know...

Neville was an integral part of the reason why The Cruiserweight Division became such a huge part of WWE back in 2017.

But he then went on to lose his Championship to Amore in the cheapest possible way when his rival low-blowed him back at No Mercy in September before he was later denied his rematch.

It seems that this as well as a number of other things including being relegated to the WrestleMania kickoff show which meant that Neville wasn't given a royalty payment for being part of the biggest show of the year.

Over the past few months, Neville has been missing from TV but also hasn't commented publically about the situation.

The former Champion's contract is currently frozen which means that it won't come to an end whilst he is out of action and it will only continue when he finally makes his return.

The heart of the matter

According to Dave Meltzer on the most recent Wrestling Observer, The King Of The Cruiserweight is currently in talks with WWE about a return and it is thought that the target for his return could be April.

With the new Cruiserweight Champion set to be crowned at WrestleMania, this could easily lead to Neville's return to then step into a feud with this superstar.

It's a hard situation for WWE and Neville since right now everything is pure speculation because the company and Neville himself haven't confirmed anything about the issues that are keeping him away from returning.

What's next?

The Cruiserweight Tournament will continue over the next few weeks and culminate at WrestleMania, it seems that talks with Neville to return to the company will continue throughout this time in the hopes that he will be back on TV next month.

Author's take

Neville needs to return to WWE, he was a unique talent in the company and he is definitely someone who is missing from the Cruiserweight Division right now.

205 Live has changed quite a lot over the past few months and it seems that Neville could flourish much better under the management of Triple H on the Cruiserweight brand now that Drake Maverick has become the authority figure on the show.
