What’s the story?

Former WWE Women’s Champion and Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix recently spoke with WWE superstar Natalya Neidhart for the Calgary Sun.

During her interview, The Glamazon weighed in her opinions on the future of women’s wrestling in WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

Phoenix made her WWE debut in 2004 as part of the company’s developmental territory at the time, Ohio Valley Wrestling.

During her stint with the WWE, she became a three-time Women’s Champion and a one-time WWE Divas Champion during her eight-year tenure.

In 2017, Phoenix was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and became the youngster superstar ever to enter WWE’s Hall of Fame class.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with former Smackdown Women’s Champion Natalya, Phoenix was asked about her vision for the future of women in WWE, after she became the youngster WWE Hall of Famer.

She stated, her vision is simple and that is to keep moving forward with the talented female stars in the WWE today.

The Glamazon added that she has indeed realised the fact that prior to her run with the WWE, an army of women came into the company and paved the path for the opportunities she received during her time with the company.

"I am so proud of the page in the history book that contains the words “Beth Phoenix” because good, bad or ugly, in the words of old Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way.”- Phoenix stated.

Additionally, she said, her vision for the women in WWE is that they continue to “do it their way” and not believe in limitations, glass ceilings, or boxes that will eventually hold these talented women back.

"Equality is there for us if we continue to demand it. Like my grandmother once said to me, ‘Don’t waste a minute thinking about what you could do. Life is short. The time to live is now.’ Amen Gramma. Thank you.”- she further added.

What’s next?

Since her Hall of Fame induction, Phoenix has been hugely involved with the WWE, where is currently providing commentary for the WWE’s first ever Mixed Match Challenge tournament.

She was also a part of this year’s, first ever female Royal Rumble match, making her the only competitor in history to enter both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble.

Author’s take

Being one of the most experienced veterans of this business, The Glamazon is absolutely spot on with her predictions for the future of the women in WWE, I believe.

Personally, I also think, that the female superstars such as the likes of Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Kairi Sane, and others will keep on breaking barriers in the WWE as time gradually progresses.
