What's the story?

Former NXT Champion, Bobby Roode was involved in a dark match before this week's episode of WWE SmackDown went live, in Oakland, California at the Oracle Arena. He defeated Mike Kanellis in a squash match. We bring you the details, via EWrestlingNews.

In case you didn't know...

Bobby Roode joined the SmackDown Live roster a few weeks ago, but he did not appear on this week’s show.

This match was similar to the dark match they had on September 5 edition of SmackDown Live. Roode also defeated Kanellis in a televised match on the August 29 episode but has not appeared on the live broadcast ever since.

The heart of the matter

It didn't take long for Roode to beat Mike Kanellis as this was a squash match. Roode pinned Mike Kanellis after hitting a Glorious DDT.

But what felt more surprising was, according to fans in attendance, Maria Kanellis was not with her husband, Mike Kanellis. 'The Power Of Love' was missing tonight.

Bobby Roode versus Mike Kanellis isn't exactly a major marquee matchup so the result is not really a surprise.

What's next?

Roode appears to be waiting until a major program opens up for him. It's likely that he could find himself in a program for a singles championship like the US Title or WWE Championship.

He can have exciting matches in near future with the likes of AJ Styles, Nakamura to name a few. Rumours indicate that Dolph Ziggler is next on the horizon for him, though.

Author's take

According to PW Insider, there is speculation that WWE is currently considering a Bobby Roode and Kevin Owens rivalry after Hell In A Cell. It could prove to be a fresh and exciting program for both the superstars.

Roode deserves a great feud and it looks like he will have some 'Glorious' matches soon.
