The Bollywood Boyz: All you need to know about the Indian brothers in WWE

The Indian presence in WWE

The first edition of Cruiserweight Classic was a memorable one for many reasons. As for the fans in India, one of the factors that excited them about the event, was the presence of Gurv Sihra and Harv Sihra.

Collectively known as the Bollywood Boyz, Harv and Gurv, were the representatives of the nation in the tournament and though they suffered an early exit, they did announce their arrival in the company.

Now with the launch of 205 Live, Gurv and Harv are officially back with the WWE, thus guaranteeing more exposure for the team. They are slowly making their mark in the WWE Universe and in this piece, we take a closer look at the tag team that has the Indian fans excited.

#5 Harv has worked in Bollywood

One-half of the brothers, Harv, has pursued acting in the past. He went to Anupam Kher’s acting school, Actor Prepares, and managed to land some impressive projects as well. The most impressive things on his acting resume would when he worked alongside Akshay Kumar, for the Bollywood movie, Brothers.

Harv noted that he was able to train with, Kumar and his trainer, for three weeks, during which he learned a lot. He has already appeared in a Punjabi Music video by Miss Pooja where he played the lead role.

“I remember what Akshay Kumar told me. Keep working hard and eventually you will get there. No matter where you are in India, it doesn’t matter, do your work and success will come.” Harv said during an interview.

#4 Decade-long veterans

They debuted back in 2006

Harv and Gurv might be new faces for the WWE Universe, but they have been wrestling for nearly ten years now. The duo made its debut back in 2006 with most of its success coming in Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling. They were five-time tag team champions in the promotion and apart from this, they also featured in TNA’s Ring Ka King.

Before making it into WWE, the brothers also wrestled in Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling and made history there, when they became the inaugural tag team champions. It was a year after this win in GFW that the team was announced for the Cruiserweight Classic.

#3 And they have Bollywood favourites as well

They have Bollywood favourites as well

The love that Harv and Gurv have for Bollywood is evident from the team’s name itself. And unsurprisingly, the duo has favourites as well. Gurv grew up a fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Govinda. He once noted that the struggle that Shah Rukh Khan went through to reach the top of the Bollywood was what inspired him.

Meanwhile, Harv is a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan. He was such a big fan that he used to have posters of Amitabh on his walls. Akshay Kumar is another name that inspired Harv.

#2 They appeared as Extras for SmackDown

From extras to roster members

Before they made their mark in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, Harv and Gurv worked as extras for WWE. They appeared as extras on a SmackDown show in Portland, a few years back, and it was probably something that changed their life. We’ll get into how it changed their life in the next slide.

The journey from being extras, to being featured on one of the biggest tournaments in WWE is inspiring enough, and unlike their predecessors, Harv and Gurv want to break the stereotypes.

They are confident that they bring something that WWE Universe has never seen before, and maybe this is why the transition from extras to credible names on the roster has worked out well.

#1 The impact of Triple H

They’ve just started

As mentioned in the previous slide, it was a SmackDown show in Portland that changed their life. During the show, Harv and Gurv met with Triple H. Triple H asked them to ‘keep on doing their thing’ and work at it. Harv and Gurv decided to make a name for themselves, and this is how Harv went on to pursue acting.

So the next time they came back to WWE, they had some great things to show on their resumes, including a Bollywood appearance. Chris Jericho also gave the brothers advice about making a great first impression and Harv and Gurv managed to absorb all of this, and produce a positive outcome.

The best part of all this is: The Journey of the Bollywood Boyz in the WWE has only begun.
