WWE News: Booker T talks about 'the one that got away'

Booker T vs HBK, potential classic?

What's the story?

In a recent interview, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T answered the question regarding who he would have liked to have faced off against, but never got the chance.

In case you didn’t know…

Booker T is a former five-time WCW World Champion, as well as a one-time World Champion in WWE.

He also wore the tag straps a total of 14 times, 10 times in WCW with his brother Stevie Ray, and four times in WWE, each time with a different partner, including a memorable run with Goldust. He also won the King of the Ring tournament held in 2006.

The heart of the matter

Booker T was recently interviewed by Ring Rust Radio, during the interview he was asked about who he had wished he could face off against, but never got the chance to. His answer? The Heartbreak Kid himself, Shawn Michaels (quotes from Wrestling Inc).

"Booker T vs. Shawn Michaels in our prime, not now of course. He's still looking real good, but even in our prime, I think Shawn Michaels and I could've gone out and created some magic between us.

"He's the one guy I never really got a chance to get in the ring and perform with."

What’s next?

There's a lot on Booker's plate at the moment; apart from serving as a colour commentator on the Raw roster, he has also announced plans to run as mayor of his hometown of Houston, Texas in the 2019 election.

His independent promotion, Reality of Wrestling, continues to thrive and focuses on developing and training new and up and coming talent.

Author’s take

Shawn Michaels, along with others such as Ric Flair and Bret Hart, always possessed the ability to have good matches with average talent, although Booker T was anything but average.

Booker was always at his best when matched with smaller, quicker wrestlers such as Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. A match between the two would have been a feature match of any WWE event, including Wrestlemania.
