What's the story?

Terry Bollea - aka Hulk Hogan - has lived a pretty crazy life. So much so that people have been wondering when someone was going to go ahead and make a movie about it. Well, those people can stop wondering: the wheels are in motion for a Hulk Hogan biopic, and there's already a big star attached to play the former WWE champion.

In case you didn't know...

Movies about wrestlers and their life stories seem to be trending right now. Both ESPN and HBO produced critically acclaimed documentaries on Ric Flair and Andre the Giant respectively, last year. Fighting With My Family, the recent Dwayne Johnson-produced biopic of Paige, has been getting excellent reviews and currently sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Even the ultimate wrestling biography dream project, the life story on Vincent Kennedy McMahon, is currently in pre-production.

So, of course we're getting a Hulk Hogan movie.

The heart of the matter

Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that not only is a Hogan film in the works, but there's some pretty talented names involved, as well.

Chris Hemsworth, best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films (including this April's Avengers: Endgame), has been cast as the pro wrestling legend. Interestingly enough, as thisInsider.com reminded us, Hogan himself suggested Hemsworth for the role when he was asked about it six years ago.

"I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he's doing. You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie 'Thor.'"

The crew lining up behind the camera is turning out to be pretty exciting as well. Directing the film will be Todd Phillips, best known for The Hangover films, and he recently wrapped up filming Joker for Warner Brothers. Phillips's writer on Joker, Scott Silver, is co-writing the film.

Even the list of producers is interesting. Hemsworth is listed as a producer, along with former WCW President Eric Bischoff. Hogan is himself credited as a consultant and executive producer, as well. Most interesting among the list of producers is Bradley Cooper, who is producing it along with Phillips as part of their Joint Effort production company. Cooper has also been rumored to have been offered the role of Vince McMahon in that project we mentioned earlier.

Reports state that the film will cover the early portion of Hogan's life, including his early wrestling career and the rise of Hulkamania in the 1980s. The film won't, however, touch on his more troubled recent past, such as his leaked sex tape and lawsuit against Gawker.

What's next?

The film, which will be made for Netflix, is currently in early stages of development. No production or release date has been scheduled.

Of course, Twitter has opinions.
