Cody Rhodes will put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14. The American Nightmare issued the challenge to KO last Friday on SmackDown, with WWE making the match official later in the night.
Cody Rhodes seeks revenge from the former Universal Champion after Kevin Owens' Piledriver on Randy Orton sidelined The Viper indefinitely. Rhodes and Owens had a heated confrontation on SmackDown as things have become personal between them.
At Saturday Night's Main Event, fans can expect a tough battle between the two superstars, but it could be The Viper who could eventually determine the outcome. Randy Orton might show up and attack Kevin Owens in search of revenge.
However, his interference could distract Cody Rhodes and let KO capitalize and win the match and the title. On that occasion, The American Nightmare would confront his friend afterward, blaming him for losing his title and setting the stage for a future feud between the two, where one of them would need to turn heel.
No matter the outcome of the title match at Saturday Night's Main Event, one thing is certain - Randy Orton will go after KO again, as their rivalry is far from over.
Kevin Owens told Cody Rhodes that he 'hated' him
Cody Rhodes has wanted to fight Kevin Owens for the past couple of weeks. The American Nightmare eventually had a face-off with KO on Friday, calling him out for his actions.
During last Friday's segment, it was Owens who made a statement, after telling The American Nightmare that he actually 'hated' him, unlike Randy Orton, saying that he 'loved' The Viper.
"I love Randy Orton. You. I hate you," KO said.
The feud between the two megastars started before Bad Blood, following Cody's decision to team up with Roman Reigns against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. KO didn't like that decision and had turned heel, assaulting Rhodes backstage after Bad Blood in early October.
This heel turn led to a confrontation with Randy Orton and a feud between the two. Orton and Owens had a match, which never started, at Crown Jewel before KO used the banned Piledriver to injure The Viper.
