What's the story?

Former WWE Superstar Marc Copani, better known to WWE fans as Muhammad Hassan, is set to return to pro wrestling after a gap of 13 long years.

He is set to return to a wrestling promotion "The Dynasty", at a show called King of Thrones, according to the promotion's Facebook page.

In case you didn’t know…

Hassan made his debut in WWE back in 2004, in an Arab-American gimmick which saw him and his then manager Daivari appearing as heels and berating America and its citizens for its discriminating ways. He was given a humongous push, which saw him feuding with the like of Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker.

Following a highly controversial segment on SmackDown, Hassan was unceremoniously let go from the company in 2005.

The heart of the matter

The above mentioned controversial segment on SmackDown saw Hassan summoning his allies to attack the Undertaker, following which masked men wearing black shirts and camouflage pants attacked The Deadman and carried him away.

The London bombings of 2005 took place three days after this segment, and after large-scale outrage, the angle was immediately scrapped, and Hassan was released later on.

Now, after 13 long years, Hassan is set to return to in-ring action once again on April 28th, on a show dubbed King of Thrones. The show will also feature former ECW Superstar Sandman.

The said show takes place at Amsterdam Elks on Saturday, April 28th.

Author's take

The angle on SmackDown was a highly insensitive one to begin with and should never have taken place. It was even more ridiculous considering the fact that Caponi is Italian-American, not even Arab.

It is distressing to see the promotion retaining the controversial gimmick even now.
