Ember Moon injury update: Is this all just a work?

Apparently, Ember Moon’s injury was just a work

What’s the story?

As reported by Cageside Seats, the supposed injury that Ember Moon suffered on NXT was indeed just a work. The story comes from Squared Circle Sirens who have stated that Moon is absolutely fine as she prepares for another shot at Asuka’s NXT Women’s Championship.

In case you didn’t know...

Moon has been a force to be reckoned with ever since re-appearing on NXT under her new gimmick, with her dominant streak leading to a match for the NXT Women’s Championship at Takeover: Orlando. Unfortunately, she lost the bout against the unbeaten Asuka, who actually turned heel in the process which will seemingly set up another one on one match between the two at some point in the future.

The heart of the matter

The report suggests that Moon’s injury angle is being done in order to build her up as some kind of fearless warrior, kind of in the same style as Seth Rollins with his knee injury. With Asuka now a fully fledged heel, the hope from WWE management is that Ember will start to build up some momentum heading into a probable bout over the next few months.

What’s next?

We’ll continue to see how this plays out on NXT television, with many believing that Moon will be the woman to dethrone Asuka on her way to becoming NXT Women’s Champion. Despite the growing strength of the women’s division on both Raw and SmackDown Live, it’s widely anticipated that the Empress of Tomorrow will be promoted to the main roster relatively soon.

Author’s take

It’s smart of NXT to try and build some sympathy for Moon, but they need to be careful when it comes to how they portray her character. Ember is a mysterious figure that needs to be treated in the same kind of way as people like Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt, with the outsider mentality taking priority over making her seem like a happy go lucky babyface.
