Gunther became the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career after defeating Damian Priest at SummerSlam. He will defend his title at Bash in Berlin against 14-time World Champion Randy Orton.
It will be a rematch from the King of the Ring final, where Gunther defeated The Viper. The controversial ending set the tone for a rematch, which will take place in Berlin on August 31.
Gunther is considered one of the top stars in WWE at the moment and has done a great job as a heel; thus, it wouldn't come as a surprise if WWE kept him as the World Champion for a long time.
With that in mind, let's take a look at three WWE stars who can dethrone him and become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

#3. Braun Strowman
The Monster Among Men has yet to have a title opportunity since his return to WWE after several months off due to an injury. Currently a babyface, it would make sense for Braun Strowman to step up and challenge the Ring General for the World Heavyweight Championship at one of the coming Premium Live Events.
Strowman has the strength to dominate Gunther and dethrone him, and he would get a major push by WWE should that happen.
#2. Brock Lesnar
A feud between Brock Lesnar and Gunther was in the works for WWE before the Beast Incarnate's long hiatus. Lesnar has been out since SummerSlam 2023, and it is unknown when he will make his comeback.
The company has hinted at his return, but there is no timetable yet. Should he come back, he should go after the Ring General right away. Lesnar has shown that he has the ability to dominate any opponent he goes up against, and he could dethrone the reigning champion should the two collide for the world title.
#1. John Cena
John Cena has officially announced a farewell tour that will take place throughout 2025, and we should consider it a no-brainer that he will go after Gunther and the World Heavyweight Championship should the latter hold the title until at least the Royal Rumble in late January.
If this happens, the Ring General could be the first opponent in Cena's farewell tour, and WWE could proceed with this plan and have the two superstars collide at some point next year.
The Cenation Leader has proved that he can defeat any opponent, no matter how strong and dominant they are. During his prime years, he defeated the Big Show, Mark Henry, and Brock Lesnar, among others, who are considered three of the toughest opponents to beat in WWE history.
Thus, John Cena could become the one to dethrone the Ring General and become a World Champion for a record 17th time.
As for Randy Orton, he showed at King of the Ring back in May that he can match Gunther's physicality and wrestling skills, and we could see him take his revenge and eventually become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
