From the NJPW Rumor Mill: New Japan Pro Wrestling will have a video game announced

Kaz
Okada and Naito clash for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12...

What's the story?

Wrestling Inc. is reporting on a major announcement that could potentially come from New Japan Pro Wrestling. There is a video game in the works featuring the company.

In case you didn't know...

In 2006 and 2007, Yukes (who also develops the WWE 2K series) released Wrestle Kingdom and Wrestle Kingdom 2 for the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 2.

These were the only video games to feature New Japan Pro Wrestling, but also included All Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah wrestlers.

The heart of the matter

The day before Wrestle Kingdom 12, Fan Festa 2018 will take place on January 3rd. This event will have signings from the NJPW wrestlers, three live matches, press conferences and much more.

Within the itinerary of the event from the New Japan Pro Wrestling site is a video game announcement. This announcement is set to occur at 12:15 local time, roughly 45 minutes after the event opens to all general attendees.

At the time of this writing, there are no other details for the video game. It could be a console game for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, or it could just be a mobile game. Expect those details to come out during next week's announcement.

What's next?

Stay tuned to Sportskeeda between now and January 3rd for any further details that may come out on the video game announcement from New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Wrestle Kingdom 12 takes place on January 4th with two major main events. Chris Jericho takes on Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Championship and Tetsuya Naito will take on Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Author's take

It would be very interesting if Yukes is behind the development of the new NJPW video game. I never played the Wrestle Kingdom games prior, and actually, I didn't know they even existed.

With the number of WWE mobile games that have hit the market making money, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a mobile title. Either way, I'm definitely interested to see what comes about this announcement.
