From the rumor mill: Original plans for SmackDown Live #1 contender's match?

What's the story?

According to PWInsider.com, the original plans for the SmackDown Live main event was for Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Naomi to face off in a triple threat match. The winner would of course become number one contender to Natalya's Women's Championship. These plans were obviously changed to include Tamina.

In case you didn't know...

This is not a rare occurrence for any WWE show. Plans change constantly and storylines, matches and match results are regularly altered minutes before and sometimes even during a match.

The heart of the matter

As seen on Tuesday night, not only was Tamina a part of the main event match but she also took the pin fall. One could make the argument she was only added to the match for this purpose and to protect the other two women, but there is also the fact that Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Naomi are all faces and perhaps the decision was made not to give the fans a reason to boo any of them.

What's next?

Charlotte will face Natalya for the SmackDown Live Women's Championship.

Author's Take

The new alliance of Tamina and Lana have been struggling to remain relevant in the extremely competitive SmackDown Live women's division. As it stands, only 3 women on SmackDown Live have not been Women's Champion before, and one of them currently holds the Money in the Bank briefcase. I thought a 4way made perfect sense and if true it is unfortunate that both Tamina and Lana have become this much of an afterthought not only to the fans but backstage as well.
