What's the story?

Zack Ryder wrestled Mike Kanellis last night in a dark match on Monday Night Raw, which was taped for this week's episode of Main Event. PWInsider are now reporting that he suffered a knee injury as part of that match.

In case you didn't know...

Ryder was moved over to Raw as part of the Superstar Shakeup last week alongside Kanellis, after an underwhelming few years on SmackDown Live. Ryder was once part of a team with Mojo Rawley, who has also been moved over to Raw, but their breakup wasn't given as much of a spotlight as many fans would have hoped.

A move to Raw signalled a new start for Ryder who has already suffered a torn ACL, which left him out of action from December 2016 until April 2017 and cost him and Rawley their chance to compete for the Tag Team Championships.

The heart of the matter

Ryder took on Kanellis last night as part of a match that was taped for WWE Main Event before the former Intercontinental Champion updated his Twitter with the following message.

PWInsider is now reporting that Ryder suffered a knee injury since the star himself stated that he is heading to Orlando for an MRI. The last thing Ryder wants right now is another few months on the shelf.

What's next?

Ideally, Ryder would be part of the 50-man battle royal at The Greatest Royal Rumble on Friday night, but if his injury is much worse than first feared, then he won't be featured in the match.

Author's take

Ryder just can't catch a break. The WWE Universe has always been behind him but it seems that the creative team is running out of options.

He only returned from an injury a year ago and hasn't been able to make much of an impact in that time. A move to Raw was supposed to be a clean slate for him and it seems to have started off in the worst possible way.
