From the WWE Rumor Mill: Latest update on Bobby Fish's knee injury

How will Fish's injury effect the Tag Team Championships?
How will Fish's injury affect the Tag Team Championships?

What's the story?

Bobby Fish was injured at a recent WWE Live Event and it seems that the injury could be one that will keep him on the sidelines for a while. This leaves a number of questions hanging over the NXT Tag Team Championships with NXT TakeOver: New Orleans on the horizon.

In case you didn't know...

Bobby Fish debuted on the NXT roster back in June and it seems that the former Ring of Honor star has already made enough of an impact in the past few months to be one half of the Tag Team Champions.

Fish is one-third of The Undisputed Era alongside Adam Role and Kyle O'Reilly and as a trio, the group have been one of NXT's hottest commodities in recent months.

The champion was reportedly injured at a recent house show event a few days ago when he and O'Reilly were defending the Tag Team Championships against Heavy Machinery. Fish clutched his leg and Cole then made a run in which allowed the match to end quickly before Fish was helped to the back by officials.

The heart of the matter

NXT TakeOver: New Orleans is now less than five weeks away and it seems that if Fish's injury is severe then it could cause a problem for Fish and O'Reilly when it comes to their planned match at the event.

Dave Meltzer spoke about the injury on The Wrestling Observer earlier today and discussed NXT options moving forward. (Transcript via WrestlingNews.co)

"In Indianapolis Bobby Fish blew out his knee. It sounded bad. I haven’t heard an update, obviously, he’s half of the tag team champions and NXT has TV [tapings] on Wednesday and I would say it’s highly unlikely that he’s gonna be wrestling by Wednesday.”

Meltzer went on to state that he has been led to believe that Fish won't be wrestling at Takeover in April, which leaves the Tag Team Championship match up in the air.

"Whether [Fish] can wrestle on TakeOver, I mean if the injury is as bad as it seemed that it was and I was led to believe yesterday then he isn’t gonna be wrestling TakeOver. But again, today was the day he was gonna be fully diagnosed and I haven’t heard anything about that.
"But if he’s not wrestling at TakeOver they have to do something with the tag team titles which would be … I mean your choices are have the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic be your champions or have the winners of that tournament face Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole to determine the new champions. Those seem to be obvious options there could be something else as well. So that will probably be addressed on the first show they tape on Wednesday.”

There have been a number of rumours about the Tag Team Championships moving forward, but there has been no official announcement from WWE yet.

What's next?

The next set of NXT tapings are due to take place in the next few days and these will then lead up to the NXT Takeover: New Orleans event, so it seems that if there is a problem with Fish then it will be addressed as part of these tapings.

Author's take

It isn't a great situation for Fish who has been one of the most consistent performances on the brand in recent months. Hopefully, he is able to wrestle a small part at Takeover so that he and O'Reilly aren't forced to lose their Championships because of an injury at the worst possible time.
