From the Rumor Mill: Update on Neville's WWE status ahead of The Royal Rumble

Neville hasn't been seen on WWE TV since October
Neville hasn't been seen on WWE TV since October

What's the story?

Neville reportedly walked out of the company back in October after it was revealed that The King of The Cruiserweights had a number of issues with his position in the company. It has been almost three months since he was last seen and it seems that Dave Meltzer still thinks that Neville's future is up in the air.

In case you didn't know...

Neville is a former NXT Champion, he was brought up to the main roster as one of the stars from developmental who had the most potential and WWE seemingly ruined him when they pitted him in matches against Wade Barrett to crown the best British star, which culminated at King of the Ring when Barrett won the competition.

Neville was a count away from becoming World Champion in 2015 when he faced Seth Rollins and the ropes seemingly saved the Champion. Since then his career had been in freefall until he singlehandedly saved the 205 Live division throughout 2017 only to have his title taken away from him in the cheapest of ways.

His feud with Austin Aries was also pushed to the kick off show at WrestleMania 33, which meant that he didn't appear on the DVD, so he didn't receive any royalties, something that apparently also angered Austin Aries.

The heart of the matter

It all became a little too much for Neville back in October when he decided to walk out of the company after he dropped the Cruiserweight Championship to Enzo Amore at No Mercy at the end of September and was then screwed out of his rematch.

Many reports have suggested that Neville has had issues with his place on the WWE card for the past few months and it still seems as though his wrestling future is up in the air. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter was recently asked about Neville's status on Twitter by a fan.

It seems that WWE is no closer to pushing the star to make a return, whilst at the same time Neville could be sitting out his WWE contract which means that he won't have to return.

What's next?

The 2018 Royal Rumble takes place next weekend, this was the place that Neville first won the Cruiserweight Championship last year and it was thought that he would want to return to be part of the Royal Rumble match itself. Neville would be the perfect start to make a shock return as part of the annual match.

Author's take

Neville was one of the most innovative and exciting stars that WWE had for a long time but it seems that they had no idea what to do with him. Neville made a name for himself on the Independent Circuit before he made his way over to NXT and it seems that if he wanted to walk away from WWE then he could easily pick up where he left off on the Indies. That being said, the WWE Universe would love to see him in The Royal Rumble next weekend.
