What's the story?

As per a report by Wrestling Observer, even though former TNA World Champion Bobby Lashley was under contract with Impact Wrestling until May and was also being paid well, he chose to ask for his release early, which has been granted to him even though it would lead to him losing money.

In case you didn't know...

Bobby Lashley was part of the WWE roster from 2005 till 2008, where he has held the United States Championship and the ECW Championship. He also had a noteworthy feud with John Cena for the WWE Championship. Lashley was released from his WWE contract in 2008 following a six-month injury absence.

He then joined TNA in 2009 and stayed with the company for a short period of time before going on to make a name for himself in the world of MMA.

He returned to Impact Wrestling in 2014 and has stayed with the company since.

The heart of the matter

Dave Meltzer said on WON that he thought EC3 wasn't a big enough name for an AJ Styles kind of Rumble Debut but Lashley might have the star power needed to pull that off.

As per the Observer, Lashley has let go of good money in order to depart early from Impact Wrestling which could certainly mean that he is making his way to WWE sooner rather than later.

What's next?

Bobby Lashley is an immensely talented superstar and the fact that he has left Impact Wrestling could mean that he will be joining WWE or maybe even NJPW soon.

Author's take

Bobby Lashley would fit right in WWE and an appearance at Rumble would surely make the fans happy. In his last run with the WWE, Lashley was booked like a future World Champion and it's possible that it may become a reality in his second run with the company.

Impact Wrestling will also have a chance to put the spotlight on younger talent and build the promotion around newer wrestlers.
