From the WWE Rumor mill: Big Cass to get a name change?

What's the story?

As per Ringsidenews.com, WWE have filed a trademark application for "Colin Cassady", which was the name used by RAW Superstar Big Cass before he switched to his current name.

The reason why WWE are doing so could be that Big Cass could be going back to his former ring name in Colin Cassady when he makes his return to WWE television.

In case you didn't know...

Big Cass signed with the WWE in 2011 and was part of a tag team with Enzo Amore for the most part of his career in NXT and even main roster before the duo split in 2017, after Cass turned heel on Enzo.

Enzo Amore has since been released by the WWE due to being involved in a scandal which WWE doesn't want anything to do with.

Big Cass was all set for a singles push which was cut short by a severe knee injury, later revealed to be a torn ACL. Cass is expected to make his return around May-June this year.

The heart of the matter

It looks like WWE wish to revert his name back to Colin Cassady to disassociate him from former tag team partner Enzo Amore.

To be honest, Colin Cassady is certainly a better ring name than Big Cass, which sounds way to generic.

What's next?

The 7-footer has stated that he will be making his return sometime after Wrestlemania. With this trademark, it can be assumed that he will be returning with the name Colin Cassady.

Author's take

I think Cass has tremendous potential and can work as one of the top giants in the company if given the right opportunities.

With WWE already having Big E and Big Show, the name Big Cass sounded completely unoriginal and a change back to Colin Cassady will hopefully give him an advantage of developing a fresh character.
