From the WWE Rumor Mill: Three possible NXT Title matches for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 3

NXT will return to Brooklyn for the third time

What’s the story?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are three key matches being built towards for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.

In case you didn’t know...

NXT will be returning to Brooklyn for the third straight year. The first NXT Takeover: Brooklyn took place in 2015 during Summerslam weekend. It has since become a tradition, and the Brooklyn show has been considered by many as NXT’s biggest show of the year.

The first year garnered immense acclaim, with the most famous match of the show being a classic between Sasha Banks and Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship. The main event featured Finn Balor defending the NXT Championship against Kevin Owens in a ladder match.

The second year had its two marquee matches being a rematch between Asuka and Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship, with the main event being Shinsuke Nakamura defeating Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship. Just like the previous year, it was tremendously well-received.

This may be the last Takeover in Brooklyn, as Summerslam may not continue at the Barclays Center in New York City for 2018. The Takeover show will naturally be held at the same venue where Summerslam takes place.

The heart of the matter

According to WON, the three matches that seem to be the direction right now for Takeover: Brooklyn 3 are:

Bobby Roode vs Drew McIntyre (NXT Championship)

Asuka vs Ember Moon II (NXT Women’s Championship)

Authors of Pain vs Heavy Machinery (NXT Tag Team Championship)

What makes it interesting is that all three matches have a very high chance of the title changing hands. Takeover: Orlando saw no title changes and there is a high chance that Takeover: Chicago may not have any changes either. However, at Brooklyn, there is certain to be a new chapter written in NXT.

Perhaps the title most likely to change hands will be the NXT Women’s Championship. By Brooklyn, Asuka will have held the title for at least 500 days, so it would be the perfect place for the big payoff. It seemed from the start that Ember was destined to dethrone The Empress Of Tomorrow, and that is something there is a high chance of seeing at Brooklyn.

Given the time, there is no doubt that the women can steal the show, reminiscent of 2015 when Sasha Banks and Bayley stole the entire weekend.

What’s next?

NXT will go through Chicago before a couple of months at Full Sail University. Then the top show of the year for them will take place. There is no doubt that Brooklyn 3 will be historic.

Author’s Take

The three match-ups look exciting on every level. It was a great move to make Asuka retain at Orlando, so they can stretch out the story until Brooklyn 3. It would be a perfect stage for all three titles to change hands to kick off a brand new era of NXT, with the champions being Drew McIntyre, Ember Moon, and Heavy Machinery.
