What's the story?
We noted earlier that there were reports circulating that WWE developmental talent and Mae Young Classic Abbey Laith (Kimber Lee) had been released from her contract. Several of the sources who claimed this, also said more releases would be on the way and, it now appears that may be true as there are now reports that another Mae Young Classic competitor, Sage Beckett, has been released.
In case you didn’t know…
Before the Mae Young Classic in 2017, Sage Beckett had spent the previous 13 years wrestling all over the world.
She has wrestled a few televised matches for Impact Wrestling over the years and has also wrestled in Japan. She retired back in 2012 for 2 years due to a serious injury, before returning to action in 2014.
Beckett signed with WWE in early January 2017 and wrestled on NXT live events before the Mae Young tournament. She was eliminated from the tournament in the first round by Bianca Belair.
The heart of the matter
Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com first reported the release of Sage Beckett earlier today. Neither WWE or Sage have directly commented on the release, however, Sage has tweeted out her response to the news.
More releases are expected to follow.
What's next?
We will keep you updated with more on this developing story as we get it.
Author's take
I find this a major shame, both Beckett, and Laith, have both been working so hard for over a decade and finally made it, only for this to happen. We still don't officially know why they were released, but since more is expected, we can only assume these were due to budget cuts.
