What’s the story?

On an edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, it was revealed that Bobby Lashley isn’t likely to compete in the sport of MMA while under WWE contract.

Besides, WWE’s promotional stance on allowing its Superstars to compete in MMA has also been discussed.

In case you didn’t know…

The professional wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts worlds have witnessed several stars cross over from one sphere to the other.

For instance, MMA legends such as Ken Shamrock, Ronda Rousey and Josh Barnett have successfully competed in pro-wrestling, whereas, pro-wrestling bigwigs such as Brock Lesnar, CM Punk and Bobby Lashley have tried their hand at MMA.

The heart of the matter

As noted by several pro-wrestling experts, former UFC Heavyweight Champion and reigning WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is the exception and not the norm, in the sense that Lesnar is the only WWE Superstar who’s allowed to compete in MMA while still under contract with WWE.

Veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer explained that Superstars such as Jack Gallagher, who have competed in MMA in the past, are now disallowed from competing in MMA while under WWE contract.

Furthermore, Meltzer asserted that Bobby Lashley isn’t going to be doing any more MMA fights.

What’s next?

Bobby Lashley is presently involved in a feud with Sami Zayn, and the latter is set to host a talk-segment with Lashley’s 3 sisters on the upcoming episode of Monday Night RAW.

As of this time, Lashley remains listed as a part of the roster by Bellator MMA but, is unlikely to compete in an MMA fight until his current WWE deal runs out.

Author’s take

Bobby Lashley is an incredible athlete and possesses excellent folkstyle and freestyle wrestling skills.

Lashley could very well compete in the Bellator Heavyweight Division. However, he makes a significantly larger sum of money working for the WWE right now.

Well, given how intelligent a businessman Lashley has always been, it’s understandable that he chose to sign with the WWE.
