From the WWE rumor mill: Backstage update on the Neville situation

Neville was th
Neville was the 4th WWE Superstar to hold the current edition of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship...

What's the story?

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about the status of former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville. Within this episode, Meltzer talked about the contract situation and if both sides are still getting along.

In case you didn't know

Before signing with the WWE in 2012, Neville made his name on the independent scene under the name of Pac. He held several titles including PWG World Tag Team Champions with current NXT Superstar Roderick Strong.

He was the first to hold the NXT Tag Team Championships with Oliver Grey under the team British Ambition. He'd hold them again with WWE commentator Corey Graves before becoming NXT Champion on February 27, 2014.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer confirmed that Neville is still under contract with the WWE, but there are not any plans to bring him back to television. The current plan is the wait out the duration of his contract and then let him be free to sign elsewhere.

Previously it was reported that the two sides were on good terms, but Meltzer confirmed that sentiment has changed and Neville wants out. At the time of this writing, Meltzer couldn't confirm when Neville's contract was set to expire.

Neville last competed for the WWE on the September 26th edition of 205 Live. He defeated Ariya Daivari and was attacked by Enzo Amore with a crutch after the match.

What's next?

Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for any further information regarding a specific date on Neville's contract as well as if anything changes between the two sides.

Author's take

I was encouraged to hear that the two sides were on good terms and potentially Neville could land back in NXT or in the United Kingdom division. He's one of the best pure wrestling talents that the WWE has on the roster today.

There were rumours that Neville is looking to make a name for himself similar to what Drew McIntyre did, so hopefully, within a few years, the door to the WWE will be open if he wants to return.
