From the WWE Rumor Mill: Bobby Fish injury update, plans for NXT Tag Team Championships

B
Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly are the current NXT Tag Team Champions

What's the story?

After Bobby Fish reportedly suffered an injury to his knee at a house show this weekend, there's been an update and it doesn't look good for the NXT Tag Team Champions.

PW Insider are reporting that Fish will undergo surgery and The Undisputed Era are to be STRIPPED of the Tag Team Championships.

In case you didn't know...

Fish and Kyle O'Reilly are an incredibly established tag team who took Ring of Honor by storm as tag team reDRagon, holding the ROH World Tag Team Championship three times.

However, Adam Cole, O'Reilly and Fish have gotten off to a flyer in NXT, where Fish and O'Reilly currently hold the NXT Tag Team Championships and Cole has been given a huge singles push.

The heart of the matter

Well, it didn't look good when Fish had to be helped out of the arena, and it seemingly isn't. Fish is at tonight's NXT tapings in Orlando, Florida, but he won't be anywhere near the action as he's currently on crutches.

Fish is expected to undergo surgery later this week in Birmingham, Alabama.

The bad news gets even worse for Fish and O'Reilly, as it seems WWE will be stripping them of the tag team gold.

There had been talk that the freebird rule may come into play, but it seems unlikely now with PW Insider also reporting that the NXT Tag Team Championships will now be up for grabs in the Dusty Classic Tag Team Tournament.

The winners were scheduled to face the Tag Team Champions, but now it seems the stakes have been upped and the winners will take all!

What's next?

There's no word on how long Bobby Fish will be out of action and, thus far, he is still one half of the Tag Team Champions.

All eyes on NXT to see whether this changes.

Author's take

It's always sad to see any wrestler suffer an injury, and Bobby Fish was on an incredibly hot run. We wish him all the best and hope the suspected injury isn't as serious as first thought.
