What’s the story?

During the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, respected Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer decided to answer some reader questions during which he also gave an update on former NXT superstar Ethan Carter III and his current status with Impact Wrestling.

In case you didn’t know…

Derick Bateman aka EC3 is a former NXT superstar who first started working under WWE’s developmental territory way back in 2010. During his time with NXT, EC3 was mentored by Daniel Bryan and wrestled in some high profile matches against the likes of Alberto Del Rio, Big E, Titus O’Neil, and Darren Young.

However, Carter was mostly used as an enhancement talent in NXT and was heavily misused by the NXT creative as well. In 2013, Carter was released from his WWE contract after spending three years under Vince McMahon’s promotion.

The heart of the matter

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, former two-time Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Ethan Carter III could possibly be making the jump to WWE in the near future. Meltzer remains confident of the fact that WWE will be willing to re-sign Carter with the company once again and the former NXT star will also look forward to signing a deal with Vince McMahon’s promotion.

One of the major reasons why EC3 could be signing with WWE is because of Impact Wrestling cutting all of their big money contracts and it is almost certain that the former Impact Grand Champion could be on his way to the world’s biggest wrestling company. On the other hand, Bateman has also filed documents to trademark his EC3 name which could possibly be an indication of him potentially signing with the WWE.

What’s next?

Ethan Carter III is currently still under Impact Wrestling contract and is also working on the Independent scene as well. Carter’s last major match on Impact Wrestling was against Matt Sydal where EC3 was seen dropping the Impact Grand Title to Sydal, the episode will air on January 8, 2018.

Author’s Take

I think Ethan Carter III has improved a lot since his last run with WWE and there is no doubt that he will be a perfect fit for the current WWE scene right now as well.
