What's the story?

Respected Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer recently reported on the latest edition of The Wrestling Newsletter that WWE is currently planning to push Hideo Itami is the top star of the 205 Live Cruiserweight division.

In case you didn't know...

Several weeks ago, WWE announced that top NXT superstar and Japanese sensation Hideo Itami will be promoted to the main roster, as part of the WWE Cruiserweight division.

Itami has been part of the NXT roster since 2014 and has had some of the best matches in NXT history, such as against the likes of Aleister Black, Bobby Roode, Kassius Ohno and more.

The heart of the matter

As reported by Dave Meltzer, it seems like WWE's current plans for NXT star Hideo Itami is to push the former GHC Heavyweight Champion as the top star of the Cruiserweight division, once he makes his debut.

Meltzer believes that Itami will be the anchor of the 205 Live show, along with Enzo Amore and the rest of his Zo-Train (Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, Noam Dar, and Ariya Daivari).

Meltzer also added that WWE might be planning to form a new babyface group in the Cruiserweight division, which will consist the likes of Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, Mustafa Ali, and Akira Tozawa.

It was later additionally claimed by Meltzer that WWE might book some of the NXT talents or Cruiserweight division talents on the 205 Live house shows next year.

What's next?

Hideo Itami maybe on his way to 205 Live but, it seems like the former Pro Wrestling NOAH star will have one last match down in NXT, as his farewell encounter.

The 36-year-old was recently challenged by current WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne to a title match on Twitter. "The Bruiserweight" asked the former GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion if he would like to fancy a shot at the UK Title, in the near future.

Author's take

I think WWE should not waste any time in pushing Hideo Itami as the top star of the Cruiserweight division and should put the current NXT superstar in contention for the Cruiserweight Title straight away.

Hideo Itami is also perfectly capable of replacing Neville as the top superstar of the 205 Live roster and the Japanese star can also fill the void left by Austin Aries.
