From the WWE Rumor Mill: High profile match in the works for NXT Takeover: Philadelphia
What’s the story?
According to WrestlingInc, a match between Adam Cole and Aleister Black is in the works for NXT Takeover: Philadelphia. The match has not been officially announced by WWE as of this writing.
In case you didn't know…
Both Adam Cole and Aleister Black have been impressive since their respective NXT debuts. Cole started with NXT back in August 2017 when he attacked Drew McIntyre at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. He then went on to form ‘The Undisputed Era’ with Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly.
Black, on the other hand, started his NXT run at NXT Takeover: Orlando. He secured a win over Andrade 'Cien' Almas at the event and later secured many other high profile victories.
The heart of the matter
The rumour suggests that Cole vs. Black will be one of the major attractions of NXT Takeover: Philadelphia. During last week’s NXT episode, Black had suffered his first pinfall defeat on NXT when he was pinned by Johnny Gargano during the Fatal Four Way match to determine the number one contender for NXT championship.
The pin came as a result of interference from the Undisputed Era. Prior to the episode, Black had defeated Cole to qualify for the Fatal Four Way match.
NXT Takeover: Philadelphia is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 27th at the Wells Fargo Centre. The only match confirmed for the show is the NXT championship showdown between Johnny Gargano and reigning champion Andrade “Cien” Almas.
As mentioned earlier, Gargano won the fatal four-way match last week on NXT to get his shot at the title.
An Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black match at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia will be a natural progression to the storyline.
While the match sells itself, the build-up could end up stealing the show. The presence of Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly is another major factor that will make this feud worth watching.
